Default Ship time

Hi all, I got the production build date on my 991 from dealer today 7/16. I hope that means completion date not sure, he did say I will get VIN soon. If that is truly the comp date then any idea how long for it to ship to US East coast? My dealer said 6 weeks, seems long to me.

That's the build start date, usually takes few weeks (month -month and a half to build if heavily optioned) then roughly 6 weeks to get here on boat

As you can tell I went al-a-carte, did not go with the standard packages because did not need all that came with those packages. So I would say its highly optioned.

I'd not call that highly optioned.

My car began production during the first week of June and was finished on June 13th. Somehow it missed a boat that left Emden on June 22nd and wasn't put on the boat until July 3rd. It's supposed to arrive in Davisville on July 14th, and I hope to pick it up on the 23rd. One of the guys on 6speed has a car that was completed on June 11th and made it to his dealer before the end of the June.

The dealer can print off a screen with the activity. I've attached the printout so you can see how they time stamp it as it goes through production as a picture.

When I started the process which as you can see was April 9th, it estimated the car would be completed by 6/18/12. A week later they moved it up to 6/15/12. Two days later drops to 6/28. Five days later to 7/5! My theory was a lot of Boxster production was going on between April 9th and whenever they were going to get around to building my car.

Also from April 10th - 21st I went in and kept changing things...in May dealer banned me basically form coming in for my own sanity. On June 1st the car basically goes on lock down with a 6/28/12 finish estimate, no more changes can be entered, you would have to release the car, get dealer to accept still taking it, and take a later build spot on dealer's allocation.

From these snapshots I believe the car actually started being put together about 6/15/12. As it went through differet major process, in different complete buildings like the red interior, I think there were 4 or 5 major stops, all time stamped, and the car was done on 6/28.

Anyways this info should be available to you if you push them. Picture attached.

Thank you all. Then you have to wait the dreaded trip across the Atlantic and hope there are no Hurricanes.

tgcrun, how are you tracking your car so closely, is the dealer giving you all that info?

The dealer just told me when the build started, when the car was completed and when it was put on the ship. If you go to the Peter W. Lampke web site you can click on schedules and scroll down to the VW Logistics link. It will give you the ships and their timetables. That being said, the ship my car ended up on wasn't on the schedule. If you Google your ship's name, you can find a tracking web site like marinetraffic.com and see where the ship is. Although, once it's north of Scotland you'll have no information until it gets pretty close to Canada.

my dealer told me two weeks ago that my car was on the Virgo Leader headed for HK but just called me 2 hours ago that he got it wrong and that it actually justed boarded the another ship today. Couldn't believe it and had a go at him but ain't going to change the fact that i will have to wait for another 14 days!

Default Build Date Start or Finish?

OK I need the straight scoop. I have a build date of 7/20/2012 and was just told by the dealer that this is the completion date...is that incorrect? I guess I will know for sure in 4 days...but...Based on what I have read here that sounds wrong and very disappointing

I think you need to check with your dealer to find out whether 7/20 is the start date or the completion date. If it's the completion date, it will already be in production and the dealer will know that. My car was started sometime between the 1st and 6th of June and completed on the 13th.
