Default New 991 - Came from 997.2

Hi everyone, just trade in my 997.2 for a 991. Absolutely love it but a piece of me misses the 997.2. I will tell you that the 997 will still have demand for years to come. These are very different cars. I got very similar options in the 991 as I had on the 997.2 but did not get the Bose or Sport Chrono. Why? For the stereo: the 991 comes with Sound Package Plus standard which already has 9 speakers that are definitely loud enough and the interior space isn't apt to utilize real high quality sound (also, the Bose sound quality wasn’t good anyway – kind of disappointing). I didn’t get sport chrono b/c the 991 comes standard now with Sport mode and I never actually used Sport Plus in my old car and I couldn’t stand that stupid clock on the dash – so did without the option.

Up next: CLEAR BRA!

Here are some of my quick thoughts with pics:

991:

Much bigger inside.
Very GT like.
Better ergonomics and more with the times with other sport cars.
Overall, more comfortable to drive.
Like the exterior more in every way (lights, shape etc...). Head turner.
More features with the PCM including weather.
Xenon lights are better – different illumination
Feels faster and it is. Didnt go with an S b/c this is more than enough for me.
Electronic steering is ok.
PDK shifts faster – smoother
Overall, the 991 is better than the 997.2 by a small margin in every aspect. But it is moving into the GT category.

997.2
Much more RAW. You really felt like you are in a sport car.
Steering is more involved. I like that.
Better sunroof!
Still like the classic shape. I still like the older interior.
Overall, feels more 911 like!

Completely disagree with you about the Bose system, but I quickly passed on sport chrono, as well (although I have an MT so it seemed near pointless). Beautiful pcar -- I also have black/black and love it. Enjoy!

Yah the Bose debate is interesting. I have Bose all around in my house and love it but never thought the Bose system in the pcar was that great. Probably why they are now offering a better system above Bose. I will tell u that the sound package plus with the 9 speakers sounds great. Very surprised

Beautiful car, and I think your comparison pretty well sums up the differences between the two cars. My 991 hasn't arrived yet, but I also opted out of the Bose and the SC. I'm happy with the base sound system in my 997.2, so even if the 991 base system is slightly better it will great. I have a manual gearbox and don't need dynamic engine mounts, so I didn't think the SC was necessary. I spent the saved money on the leather interior.

Congrats on your new ride.

Once you start to notice the spoiler deploying you will begin to forget the last car!

That was a well balanced summary of the differences based on first hand experience. Congrats on the new car. Looks great.

It's funny b/c when you usually get a new car, you don't think about the old car. In this instance, I want both!!! Just shows how insane the 997 is

Beautiful car. Black is very sharp. I too stayed with the standard radio an am not sorry that I did. The radio sounds fabulous.

Enjoy your ride.

The Sports+ alone alone makes the SC in a MT car worth it IMHO.

On the automatic, I never used it. Nor did I ever do launch control. I always drove in Sport and didnt like the clock. So not getting SC made sense to me.

Can you describe what you mean here in a bit more detail (SC on MT), I too am torn getting SC on MT base. I did notice at the dealer a base MT when you press the sport button (car without SC) button the exhaust note inside the cabin is a bit more throaty. thx

i fully agree, used to be a base system, then the plus... then bose... this 991 comes with the plus system because of the PCM w/ NAV versus the CDR system... the sound is great..

as far as steering, did you get servo steering? i do not have it and enjoy the steering same as my 997.2

as far as the rawness of the 997.2, i swapped the suspension out on my 991 and feels totally different now, much better.. less refined and "lexus" like.

what does it do? test drove one and all i noticed was the throttle response was different which made my shifts rough because i was gassing it too much because not used to it..

in my old 997.1 M/t with sport chrono, i noticed that once i got used to the throttle different my shifts were a little smoother and more "power shifts" because i was loading the throttle more...

Sad....sad that we have to spend $100K on a Porsche, and then "upgrade" the suspension to actually make it drive like a sports car....WTF
