Any update on wind buffeting issue?

Is this a US thing, having to have the windows open when on a track ?? I have done quite a few track days including several of Porsche's own track day events (but all in Europe), but no one was ever required to have the widows open. The wind noise must be very loud and distracting going down the straights.. and what happens in the wet, same rules ?
I find that depending on the car, buffeting can sometimes be reduced by opening the sun roof slightly, if you have that option. But it requires a bit of experimentation and does not always work.

I don't get the whole driving around the track with the window down thing. That would drive me crazy. And driving in traffic or behind any car with the windows down sucking up pollution isn't good for you either. Probably why PAG hasn't bothered with it.

I was at a track day recently, windows required to be down, and the buffeting at 100+ with a foam neck brace caused my head (wearing a full face helmet) to do a wired vibration thing that was quite distracting. I took off the brace and enjoyed the rest of the day. Still some buffeting but no longer a problem. And the car was amazing.

Worse buffeting Ive ever experienced- Sun roof delete is an issue- normally Id just tip the roof. I cannot drive with just the driver window down above 65, cracking 5 or 6 inches on passenger side seems much better than putting it all the way down. I like driving with open windows, seat vent and ac even on 98 degree ny days! This is after 2300 miles of experimenting

Based on my experience, +1 on the bad buffeting with one window down-- there is an unpleasant harmonic. Popping the back of the sunroof or opening the other, even a little, gets rid of the harminic. With both windows down it is about like prior 911s and most other cars I have owned- noisy over 70 mph and just loud over 90. I supect the reduction in wind noise around the windshield due to the better location of the door mirrors is also a factor.

This is just one reason I went from a Cayman S to a 997.2 and now a 991. I have to have a sunroof for this reason and also vent while parked during hot days. I also like to drive with the drivers side window down (but not passenger) and the only way to do this without major buffeting in just about any 2-door car today is with a sunroof. Most cars today are made so "tight" there is hardly any airflow
Everytime I test drove a 991 I tested the buffeting scenario out. There's no way I'd survive without a sunroof,....and while I know the hardcore reasons why one would not be optioned, IMO those reasons are vastly overshadowed by many simple benefits of it.

I have been told that to achieve the low Cd that manufacturers strive for, the cars are meant to have their windows up. They even get better fuel mileage with windows up and a/c on at highway speeds and above. My 993 coupe didn't seem to have this problem over 100mph at the track but then I may have been pre occupied trying to not crash!
