Default In line for a 991 GT3

First in line at my dealer, actually. Put down a place holding deposit today. I expect the 991 GT3 to be a spectacular performer, based on the fact that the 991S already matches the Nurburgring time of the 997 GT3, and wanted to get my name in early in case my expectations pan out. The new GT3 should answer "the 991 is too much of a GT" crowd's concerns. Will it be as visceral as the current GT3? I'm not going there....

I'm guessing Porsche has their target on Scuderia with this puppy!

Maybe not quite in the Scuderia price range though . Based on the approx $30K delta between the prices of the 997S and 997GT3 I'm guessing (hoping) the 991GT3 will base at around $125-130K.

Hmmm. What I think Porsche is not getting right now is visceral (critical to the halo 911 dna) means so much more than lap times and "more driver focused interiors". It's handbrakes, it's quirks, it's eccentricity other brands have long since engineered out.

Not god or bad it's progress. And it creates desirable classics with each evolution. 997.2 the latest addition.

I may go buy my 997.2 c4s w sport buckets and gt3 rims back. But I am not sorry for trying the 991. (no sunroof, sport Pasm, the essentials) its an amazing car. But A very tough sell for those of us who have been fortunate enough to own most or all of the 911 Models.

Wait is this a rant?!

Nice. When do you think it will be available and delivered into US?

Do we know if the 991 GT3 will be a PDK car only? Congrats, Mike.

Everyone talks so much about Nring lap times, it's gotten to the point of being silly. You probably aren't a racecar driver. Even if you are, these days that says much less about your talent than about your disposable income. That said, if you're concerned about lap times because you're hardcore, why not buy a Radical and stop playing around with street cars marketed at poseurs?

I do not understand why people are so obsessed with pushing the lap times of leather-clad electronic-assisted sunroof GT cars. You can't use any of that performance on the street without endangering yourself and others. Which leaves only the track, where just about any proper track car with even half the power will be faster and more fun.

For the price of a new gt3 you could have a pristine 3.2 carrera for a much more visceral weekend driver, a Radical sr3 that will eat any gt3's lunch on the track, and a nice truck and trailer to tow it with - oh and about $50k cash left over. The only downside is, you miss out on conversations about how many 10ths of a second faster your street car is than some other street car on some distant racetrack you've never seen.

It'll be a great car but I won't be rushing to buy it because however good it is Porsche will release a better, more limited version a year after it's out. But, I'll be first in line for the final 991 GT3 tribute car in 12 years....

Have to admit, it don't look like a GT. That wing fixes all the visual issues with the 991's rear, IMO.

True it helps but won't the new GT3 have a new adaptable aero system and not a fixed wing.

I think you're right given some of the spy shots that show GT3 exhaust but the 991's deployable wing.

Maybe big fixed wings will be reserved for the RS cars or an option a la ducktail on the 991.

Or how about a ducktail on the GT3? Sweet!

I have heard that the GT3 is looking like 2015 model year.

I've read different things. One article said the end of 2012. Other's have said 2013. The fact that there are test mules running around is a good sign. My dealer thinks next year.

Thanks HTwo. I know it's a ways off but the anticipation is part of the fun. I've read that Porsche is testing both transmissions, is likely to offer only one, and that the odds are it will be PDK. But I don't think anyone really knows yet.

I've also seen pics of GT3 test mules with the center exhaust and no fixed wing. But others do have it, and according to Auto Motor und Sport, the regular GT3 will have a fixed wing just as it always has. I hope so, anyway.

Thank you, Debbie Downer, for that presumptuous insight.
