Default My first look at the 991s...cant decide 991 or gts

My wife and I went down and took a good look at a 911 S. I echo a lot of the comments here around appearance, like the new interior, hated the sunroof open from the outside.
But i also love the GTS, probably getting a coupe this time...so need to figure out GTS or 991.

Cheers

GTS is the pinnacle of the 997 range and now is the best time to get a really good deal on it.

991 is the future but you will need to pay sticker price or very close to it.

If money no issue get the 991, for a bargain go for GTS.

I went for the GTS. I didn't want the first model year 991, and wasn't sure I would like it as much as the GTS. I bought a 2012 GTS coupe in late June at a great discount, and have no regrets at all.

Sunroof is pretty awful. There were cheap-ish japanese cars that used that type a few years back. Would not want a 991 with that option.

If the price is right, I'd go GTS......for now.

Agreed........I deleted the sunroof on my 991 order. Fortunately it did not cause any delay as was rumored.

Opinions here are inevitably going to be biased-- including mine! You, and only you, can answer that question. Your opinion, your money, your responsibility for the next x years.

Opinions here also vary. Some will say, "why buy an outgoing model?", or, "wait til the bugs of the new model are ironed out". These are good points, and you should weigh each accordingly. A minority of us, including me, do not want to part with the 997. When I think of a 911, I think of the 997. It's what I fell in love with, and the 991 does not yet tickle me. Besides, you're talking about a possible GTS-- the standard for which even the new 991 is being benchmarked against.

But I take great interest in your question. And the main reason is that, while a new, better model is here, people like you think like me-- that is, with the power to choose, the 997 still rocks my boat.

I love my 997.2 S but if it something happened to it today, I wouldn't be looking at the same old model to replace it; it would be a 991. All major mechanical components on the 991 are proven bits, with upgrades, from the 997.2. There's nothing so radically new as to think that reliability is going to be an issue. As for the fugly sunroof there's a simple solution; just don't order it and save the weight (and $$). Just my $.02

.... and if you happen to buy a 991 with a sunroof, never, NEVER open it!

Yeah, I ditched the sunroof from my order as well. Cheaper, better torsional stiffness, a lower center of gravity, but most important of all, better looking!

Both of my 997 driving friends, who I know through racing so these aren't poseurs, have now ordered 991s after driving them.

I drove one today and it was stunning! I could not believe the difference between the 997 and the 991 and I was very skeptical initially........Loved the looks too! A home run for Porsche!

Im going to take the dealer up on his offer to take the 991 out for a drive then the GTS. The gts is a cab, so a direct comparison will be tough but i will get the idea. As others have said, i think i know what to expect, the 991 wil be more of a GT like experience, the gts a little more raw...looking forward to the drive
cheers
