Anyone else notice the spare tire option is gone
Not sure if this is no longer available or never was but when you were able to build the Carrera S a month ago you could add a Spare (it was never on the base Carrera just the S) ... it is no longer on the Porscheusa.com website ...

Spares have never been available in the US (on a new car) since the introduction of the 997.1 in 2004 and it will not be available on the 991 either.

In its infinite wisdom, Porsche AG thinks the entire world is just like central Europe--a cell phone call away from a tow truck. Not so in the wilds of North America or many other parts of the world. Unfortunately, there is simply no place to put a taken off wheel and tire should you suffer a significant tire failure that is well beyond the capability of a bottle of green goop. While I do carry a radial tire repair kit at all times in my trunk, it's not going to solve all the problems--but it is decent insurance.
You can go nuts worrying about not having a spare tire in your 991. It's been a significant topic of discussion on the 997 for many years.

I was never that worried about it in my 997 because it wasn't a daily driver. The-on order 991 will be, however, so I would be interested if you would care to share some knowledge about the radial repair kit, what it does and does not do?

A Florida dealer who specializes in non-US Porsche parts is offering a spare tire kit that goes in the back seat:

$1100-$1500 for a spare is a tidy profit.
$50 wheel, $100-200 tire, $50 scissor jack, let's see, plastic bag, foam padding seat protector ... maybe $50 ... insurance, marketing, etc., ... $50? ... $400-ish? ... mark it up 100% (I don't begrudge anyone a fair profit and clearly not too many folks will one this item) ... call it $800 tops no matter how insane each line item costs?
I've driven some rather out of the way roads in various 911's and I think I'm happy with the gamble of cell phone coverage, a long wait and a AAA ride to ... somewhere ... rather than carrying a $1000 security blanket.
Last time I had a really annoying flat was a couple of years ago in my previous GL on run-flats ... junk tires that cost $500, never stay in balance, noisy, heavy ... drove 20 miles on the tire, which gave up even though it said 50 miles at 50 mph, I figured at 50, I should have made at least 100 or even the whole 200 home, then drove another 5 miles on the wheel (I'm not stopping on a freeway shoulder, never gonna happen ... even when I get a speeding ticket, I just wave and drive to the exit and the cop never even asks) then AAA towed us 200 miles home and Benz replaced the wheel and tire, and the dealer wrote off most the $1000 repair.
I'm not sure a compact spare would have altered the outcome in that situation in a 911, you still end up in limp-home or completely stuck until there's a dealer with a 20 inch spare or other stop-gap. There's every chance the wheel is toast when a 20 inch tire deflates. I guess if you knew you were going to be in extreme hot or cold and very long haul on desolate roads with no cell coverage, but then, buy a roof-rack and carry some real spares!
(it's a model, but funny)
