of course anything with a snow tire will be better then what you've got, however, i'd recommend the smallest wheel you can fit (in both diameter and width).
not only will you be saving money on the wheel, but tire will be that much cheaper too.
i'm running blizzak LM60's on a wrx here in chicago. works great when it snows but thats only been twice this year!
the rest of the time they just get shredded on dry pavement (although the LM's are supposedly slightly better in this regard).
