Deviating stitching

Deviating stitching
Okay, so I'm pretty much done with my 991S build sheet. I need some input on deviating stitching. Here's some key info: platinum silver, full Carrera red leather including carpets, PDK, sports steering wheel, adaptive sport seats, among others. I'm currently slated for deviating stitching for the dash, (upper) doors and rear panels. I was thinking a light grey, maybe pebble grey. The dealer said the only real light grey choice is GT Silver. I would have thought the deviating stitching choices would be consistent with the interior colors vs. exterior. That said, is deviating stitching for these panels a good idea? The GT Silver thread isn't metallic-looking is it? I sure appreciate the input, and would welcome any pictures of deviating stitching in GT Silver. I can't seem to find any pictures.

i never trust the deviated stitching because ive seen too many cars where one panel was overlooked and then the entire interior looks off...
even on the 997 after 5 years dealers still messed up on one section or another.... on the 991 im not even sure what is available... id double check what has stitching before ordering, the light silver sounds good tho, on the full red (being so vibrant) i honestly like the red stitch because the contrast seems excessive at times on those bright colors..

Rolando, I basically ordered the same car for my Feb. delivery. I went with the full deviating GT silver stitching, clicked off all the choices, which came to around 3K. I also added silver seat belts and black deviating carpets.
I almost pulled the trigger on a 997.1 with the same interior at the same dealership a few years back.......the interior was intoxicating. The contrast batween the black carpets/black alcantera headliner/black parts if the console/instrument cluster and the red interior/silver stitching/silver belts/aluminum look trim pieces/silver exterior was very very special feeling to bask within. My sales manager said that the red carpets color doesnt hold up well long term, if that is a consideration. Also, black carpets hide dirt obviously.
The GT silver stitching is simply silver/light grey thread. There is no issue with it "not matching" the exterior. I say go for it. I did

+1 on what Riley said about most dealers missing some parts for deviating stitching.
Do not rely on your salesman to get it right. Make sure YOU go through the order guide and determine where stitching is located on each panel/leather part. Make sure each of those panels/parts has deviating stitching.
The most obvious "missed" parts have been on black leather, which has come standard with with a lighter gray stitching. If the deviating stitching color is red or yellow, the "missed" parts, still with gray stitching, really stand out. However, the Carrera Red leather comes standard with matching red stitching so if a panel is "missed" it will not be as obvious.
Most common items that I have seen that were missed with deviating stitching:
Check out the configurator for various panels that may have stitching on them. For example, if you are getting the center storage bin lid with either the Model Logo or Porsche Crest on it, then it will NOT have stitching on it. However, if you order the "Center tunnel rear in leather with decorative stitching", not only will the the rear center tunnel have stitching on it, so will the center storage bin lid, even if you didn't order the Model Logo or Porsche Crest on it. That is apparent on the configurator, but if you are not looking for it, you could easily miss it.
If you are also considering deviating carpet, I would recommend gray to compliment the exterior and the gray stitching.
I hope this helps.
BTW, your car sounds like it will be beautiful!

- Shifter boot (I know you are getting PDK so this should impact you)
- E-Brake handle (eliminated on the 991 so not an issue)
- Steering wheel

I was just at the Nagoya Motor Show and just about every show car had red DS. Even econo boxes had faux DS on the vinyl panels. I think it's going to be overdone in the industry.
PCNA's pricing for DS per panel is a little over the top and as stated above, you can't miss any panels/seats or it looks goofy.

I'm planning on only doing the dash, upper doors and rear side panels in deviating stitching (GT Silver/light grey stitching over Carrera red interior). My thinking is that'll form a pretty even/level line all around the interior, and look pretty good. Full stitching is nice, but maybe over the top for me. Other perspectives.

Hippocampus: Yes, your build and mine are very similar. I'm struggling with my decision on the deviating stitching. Do you have any pictures of GT silver/light grey stitching on Carrera red leather? Also, I was thinking I could just do DS on the dash, upper door panels, and the rear side panels, so a single, continuous line around the interior. However, it looks like DS on the doors will include everything/all stitching, including the two additional seams that form a sideways "U" around the door, and then also around the door speaker. I'm thinking I should probably do a full DS (approx $3k) vs. trying to get "tricky". Either that or I won't do any. Thoughts?
I'm a porsche novice and this is my first 911. My sales manager said to do the deviating stitching you have to check all the boxes, so I went along. He was the guy that spec'ed the 997.1 that I loved. Who knows? Looking back now, I've discovered since reading the forums that there are many things that you don't know or are not clear when ordering, unless you are super on your game. For example, I was unaware that the tach is silver and all the other gauges are black. The sales manager did not discuss this when I ordered. He probably was not aware either. And the configurator is poor for giving us buyers a firm idea of what our options are and exactly what they look like, which is suprising considering that optioning a 911 is so complex and pricey. I'm sure once I take delivery there will be some things I wish I had ordered differently, but I won't obsess.......gonna enjoy my first Porsche, it is gonna be fabulous.

I know I wouldn't be happy with those results, but that's just the way I am. IMO, with deviating stitching, "all or nothing" are the only two choices. Doing only partial deviating stitching will look like an after thought.
Just one man's opinion.

^ agreed, all or none for me as well. When done completely and correctly it can be beautiful and expensive. When done wrong it can be expensive.
I haven't read all the responses so I'll apologize upfront if it has already been brought up, but triple check anything the sales person says. "Exclusive Options" was key to ordering deviated stitching for the 997.
I really dislike deviated everywhere then missing it on the gearshift, center console etc...

Deviating Stitching on a Carrera Red Interior
Rolando: I would encourage you to continue to explore deviating stitching and other options that Porsche makes available via Porsche Exclusive. Have you had any conversations yet with Sascha Glaeser & Melissa Witek? They are the Porsche Exclusive team based in the US and might be of great assistance to you.
I also have a couple of photos of a Carrera Red 911 interior with silver deviating stitching that Michael Hack of Porsche Exclusive in Germany sent me when I was considering the custom interior of my '12 Boxster Spyder. I can't seem to attached them to this post. But if you pm your email, I might be able to forward them to you.
In the end, I decided to skip deviating stitching on a Carrera Red leather interior. After much research and viewing examples of stitching in white, silver and black, I concluded that the Carrera Red color overwhelmed the effect of any deviating stitching! It is just the opposite in a black leather interior. Any color deviating stitching (like red, orange, green...even white) makes the drab interior just pop!
I have tried to explain at length the custom ordering process I went through with my '12 Porsche at this other RL forum. Take a look and see if any of it might be of help to you.

my natural grey boxster had silver stiching - i think it would look good as there are a number of silver highlights throughout the interior.
