I should have ordered a 7spd manual!

Not sure manuals will disappear for sometime.
They said the same thing about watches when quartz watches appeared. Quartz watches were going to make analog watches extinct. Digital watches are cheaper, more accurate and more high-tech (like today's automatic transmissions). Yet today analog watches are more popular than ever (although you can argue they are more like jewelry pieces that happen to tell time).
Manuals in the future will probably be reserved for the sports car connoisseurs while automatics will be for the "masses" who can't appreciate the "fine art" of heel-and-toe downshifting and rev-matching.

To me, driving a Porsche is all about working with the engine and transmission. When you resort to letting the engine and tranny decide where the shifting will occur then you might as well let it steer for you as well.

Ooh I was hoping for another manual vs. PDK discussion.
It's been what, an entire day, and I've missed the discussion so much.
Here's what I've learned from previous threads:
PDK drivers are limp-dicked poor excuses for men who never learned how to drive so they rely on new-fangled technological crutches like Viagra and automatic transmissions. Never mind power steering, power brakes, traction control, magnetically adjustable suspension and automatic windshield wipers - those are necessary innovations and progress, safely usable by real men. You should trade in your PDK car for a CVT Nissan Leaf - it's a much more effective soulless appliance.
Hey Granpa, your Manual Transmission is outdated and stupid. My car is faster, better and more responsive than yours. See? This spreadsheet proves that my car is video game fast and responsive and I don't even have to think to operate it. In fact, I can't drive anywhere unless the GPS is on because the voice soothes my OCD. I've never thought to turn the traction control off. In fact, I'd rather be home playing video games with my 911 safely out of the rain because god forbid it could blemish my wax job.

Here's the deal for me ... I drove the V10 BMW M5s for a while. Pretty lame IMO. Paddle shift and all that. The Porsche PDK has evolved. It's better. I understand. I don't want one ... unless it's a rental.
I like my sports cars to be manual shifters. Yes, there is A/C, electric sliding seats, sliding roofs, GPS and a whole slew of crap that was not available on the MG-TGs. I understand.
But, I want to shift for myself.
My feelings are that Porsche ... like others .. want to increase market share and satisfy the EU bureaucratic demands on mileage/emissions. Automatic transmissions are ripe for this. For example, my GF can't drive my stick Turbo. When I was a kid, everyone could drive a "3 on the tree". That is not true today. For several reasons.
Having some physicians wife drive a 911 with PDK is not all that unusual today. It was 15 years ago. And, I remember the arguments for and against Tiptronic tranny's when they came out, too. Same/same arguments today.
Frankly, I don't care if PDKs are faster. Who's driving them 'faster'? My dentist's wife? I doubt it.
Other's will disagree. But, I want a manual. And, Porsche makes a pretty nice manual transmission IMO.
Of course ... this IS an "opinion board", eh.

Duh ... I would never have known that. I'm grew up in the 60s and can't figure out how to program my smart phone either.

Exactly! there is no argument in favor of PDK as a transmission choice because that is subjective. We (we being the minority who like true manuals) concede that dual clutch transmissions are faster, but do not care. We enjoy the act of shifting however archaic that may be.

Does anyone see the irony of this same argument coming up less than 10 posts after post 19?
