This is yet another disappointing test of a 991 C2S. A repetitive theme that seems to happen with every road test, again not being any faster than the last 997 Carrera S. In fact, the 997.2 C2S cab they tested was .3 faster down the quarter. Remember a few years ago when Top Gear tested a 997.1 C2S against an R8 and it was equally as fast in both a straight line and on the track. Where is the lead ahead performance that should justify a Carrera S that now has a GT3 price?

yes the v8 sounds better, tho i would say the 991 sound way better than the 997.

WOW! Even 997.1 was faster than R8 4.2! 991 seems a bit slower than 997.2 and specially slower than GTS!

Doesn't matter to me. I buy 911s because of the styling, the feel through the steering wheel, the rock-hard brakes and the sound. I couldn't care less if it was 4.5, 4.0. 6.3 or any other numbers of seconds to 60...
Heck, I drove a new Boss Mustang on track recently and it would eat my 911 alive. What a machine! Still don't WANT one...

Most of us say Porsche's arent ideal for drag racing. The 991 (take away the hysteria over feel etc.) is way faster around the Nring than a current S (14 seconds or so) and on par with the 997.2 GT3

I drive my car everyday. I take it up in the mountains for fun (I'm not going flat out obviously). My priorities are a nice clean car that's fun to drive and that's pretty much it.

It has the exact same power to weight as a GTS and more torque (325 vs 310), so i hardly think its going to be slower than a 997.2. We are also talking about in a straight line here.

I think it was in Top Gear 2007 season, R8 was beat by 997.1 in a drag race by the slimmest of margins, so when a car that's like 7 years newer than 997.1 just barely beats the raw performance of a car that's two generations behind, that's not huge progress!
PS. Unless you call "Auto Steering" in 991 a PROGRESS for a sports car!

i am not sure how any p-car can be faster in straight line than R8. Tuned R8 car i saw at lime rock was rated at 850 horses so it has tons of potential and how it pulled away from me on straights ws unbelievable. in first 3 corners after straight i was able to keep up with it with no issues, btw, even gaining a bit and even got a pass by from him what definitely warmed my heart. but on straights it is a beast, no NA flat 6 motor can compete with it.

again, i see no reason to worry about all those reviews. it all reminds me stories about GT-R car when it was announced. devil is in details, to know all the details we will need people start buyimg those cars and tuners looking at them.

FWIW, I have 2 993's which I really enjoy and when it was time I bought a new 2007 997TT and sold it after one year as it left me cold.
To me newer is not necessarily better it is just that, newer.
The R8 is a better daily driver than any 911 I've owned (8 of them).

These stupid performance numbers have descended into irrelevance. These days it's hard to find a car that doesn't do 0-60 under 5 seconds. Anyone obsessing over .1 seconds in this or that performance measure is so completely removed from the joy of driving, its a wonder they bother with cars at all.
The modern day car culture seems to revolve around middle aged men spending huge sums on the latest grand touring cars, driving at the 45mph speed limit to the Saturday cars and coffee meetup to show off their .1 second faster (on paper) self-worth-on-wheels and talk about the latest topgear episode, then on the drive home hit the "sport" button and attempt to impress their justifiably nervous wives around a two-lane onramp while being passed on the outside by a soccer mom in a camry who's late for the game but doesnt know she's in a race for street cred.

Oh wait, test drives are not available to the "citizens" yet. So I guess your statement is your CONJECTURED opinion based on bits and pieces you have read in the tabloids, and is NOT based on first hand knowledge of the "feel through the steering wheel."
