991 Cabriolet unveiled
http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/91...a-s-cabriolet/
This is where I think the larger 20" wheels have really made a positive visual difference - the rotors are still too small, but that issue has been discussed ad nauseam. All in all the cabriolet looks great to me...can't wait for the 911 4S.

Whoa... they are reaLLy kiLLing me with all of that insignia on the back end.
P O R S C H E
911 Carrera S
... forrealzees? Is all of that even necessary? Rear-end collisions of 911's are gonna skyrocket with people trying to read the paragraph on the tail section!

I like it!
1. the top is made for magnesium
2. Alas one can open the top w/ the key
3. at 3274 lb that seems to almost 100lb lighter than the 997!
4. whats the button in b/w the top up and down buttons? Is that the air blaffer? If so it looks like its automatic?

...at least they didn't add 'Cabriolet' to the end of the "911 Carrera S" part. It is way too much, it's not as if people need help knowing that it's a Porsche and that it is a 911 - the unnecessary verbage is why I much preferred the way the 997 (and previous versions) did it. If you don't know that the car is a Porsche 911 then it means one of two things: you couldn't care less about cars, or you very likely can't read in the first place.

I like the roofline of the closed cabriolet top in the 991 compared to the 996/997. More closely matches the classic 911 shape without the support ribs visible.
The built-in wind deflector that can be deployed at any speed looks great. Also, it looks like the engine is exposed while deploying the cabriolet top. I wonder how that sounds as you are going down the road at 31 MPH.
Not loving the SUV-inspired interior, but maybe it'll grow on me. Looking forward to seeing one in person.

Now, that top is an improvement. They say it's light and certainly looks good and durable.

i heard magnesium aborbs impact well so i guess it will creak less. From a visual perspective I think the 991 Cab is a bigger (& better) leap than the Coupe. IMO of course.
I dont think the interior was inspired by an SUV. Its from the CGT. I think its looks nice execept that it may have tighter "cockpit" feel.

That wind-blocker looks quite clever. I think the 991 works better as a cabriolet - I'll bet they sell a lot of them around here.
Not to me, though.

I am quite in awe of the new cab. Yes of course I want one. And I just built one on porcheusa.com and with only moderate options it came to $130K. Ouch! I could afford one but the rational part of me just can't do it.

I, too, like the new wind deflector concept.
When something eats up space in a limited trunk it needs addressing--and Porsche did that.
What more can they do for the 991.2??

That Cab looks so good and, with the auto wind screen, appears to be more funtional than previous versions of the 911 Cab. I would strongly consider getting a Cab, and I am not a Cab guy. The only question remaining to be answered is .... does the location of the wind screen limit the amount of rear travel for the driver's seat for those of us who are 6'+ in height?

Stylistically the 991 Cab is the first 911 Cab that I really like.
The lines around the rear and over the wheels really improve the looks and the top looks much better too. I agree that the large wheels add to the package nicely.
