Just got Christophorus Magazine featuring the 991
Just got Christophorus Magazine, featuring the 991. It has a neat overlay of the outlines of each generation of 911, useful to compare overall proportions from one model to the next. Most striking is the direct comparison of the 997 to the 991. A couple of observations:
A lot has been said about the shortened overhangs of the 991. The 991 overlay to the 997 depicts just the opposite: the 997 seems to have shorter overhangs than the 991, both front and back. The overlays seem to anchor on the front wheels as a starting point—i.e. both model’s front wheels align perfectly, then the rest of both bodies diverge from there.
The overall length increase and repositioned rear axle are clearly visible vs the 997
While the roof line does seem lower, it is hardly noticeable. What is more pronounced are the position of the headlights (lower), the headlights housing (lower, obviously), and fender lines leading back to the windshield (much lower).
The windshield is more slanted back and has a much more pronounced convex shape.
The 997 rear seems truncated with the signature “hump”, while the 991’s rear is elongated and missing the same “hump”.
Nothing new, but a real good mano a mano comparison. Too bad a direct rear or front comparison weren’t also made. I’d really like to compare the widened front track to my “narrow” 997.

There's an issue with the 991 drawing in my copy because it doesn't show a measureable wheelbase change over the 997. It doesn't appear properly scaled relative to all the others.
