power steering plus?
I didn't order this even though it's a low cost option coz I wasn't sure of its need or effect with the all new electric steering.
Any thoughts on how it might play with the new steering?

Drive any Audi to get a feel for this feature - allows fingertip steering at parking speeds. Many feel this adds to the numb steering most Audis have, I'm not convinced its a bad idea on a sedan or for a woman driver. In a 911 with its "light" frontend, probably not necessary!

I used to sell Audi's and let me tell you, it doesn't feel right in a sports car. Something artificial about the feel and how it changed sort of ruined the S4s and S5s for me. On a big SUV however it wasn't bad, and quite handy when navigating a car into tight spaces or positioning it on a showroom floor. IMO I would skip it, if we wanted all this nancy stuff we wouldn't have 911s would we? :P

Hate it, hate it, hate it. I agree with bosstucker; it turned me off on Audis. Had a Panamera with Servotronic, and it was awful. Completely lifeless steering wheel in your hands up to ~30mph, which during a daily commute, is most of the time. Might as well have been steering a boat.

My trusted Service Manager tells me that this option is key as he says it is not a parking lot option, it is a performance/feel add-on.

Really? Even if that's the case, it's still FAKE feel/performance as some algorithm is going to determine HOW a sporty steering wheel should feel like!

Okay - maybe I still don't know what it does. I had "active steering" in my last BMW 550i sport - it was to control over and under steer. At low speed you it took less turning distance in the steering wheel to make a turn - a higher speeds it took a greater turning distance in the steering wheel to make a turn.
I liked it - especially at lower speeds - such as in a slalom type of line. Quick turns in the steering wheel allowed greater turning radiuses and visa versa at higher speeds. I think it was meant for greater control in case of a defensive driving maneuver at high speeds - less tendency to over steer to avoid road debris or a pending collision.
Or maybe I am still recovering from a hangover - and shouldn't be typing in this condition.

The online configurator says: "Variable power steering support for low speeds, enables easier steering inputs in low-speed corners or when parking.".
It's for parking. I can't imagine how this is a 'key option', or even a desirable one (at least to me) on a model with controversial steering changes already in place.

We have added it to all of our 997's for the most part. You will not notice it at speeds of over 30mph and said above. It does however, make it easier to turn the wheel when parking or trying to do a 3 point turn. My experiences are that most clients are going to prefere this as it will not hinder the drive experience. Consider it power steering plus for parking lots
