I respect your opinion, but we're just going to have to agree to disagree. Look at my avatar; that car doesn't look low and sleek to you? It does to me. The original 911 at 163.9" was almost a foot shorter than the 997.2, but you're saying the 997.2 is still a "classic" sized 911 while the 2" longer 991 isn't? Really?
Full leather interior, heated/cooled electric powered seats, power windows, climate control, multi channel audio, Nav, power brakes and steering, and on and on; the 997.2 is far and away more luxurious than the original 911. The changes in the 991 are purely cosmetic and tiny by comparison. Yet the 997.2 isn't luxurious compared to the original 911, and the 991 is? Sorry, I'm not buying that.
I'm nowhere near ready to trade in my 997.2 S, but when the day comes I'll have no problem with a 991 variant. For your sake, I'm sorry that you may be taking a pass on the latest and greatest 911.

Only someone who just bought a GTS would disagree. Hell i'd swap my 2009 for a GTS right now or a 991. However, i dont think I'd pay $40K on top of my car for either. I may be in the minority but i love the luxurious interior of the 991. Porsche is doing a great job with interiors. I drive my car daily and do not mind luxury. If the new car is lighter, faster, a little sleeker and more luxurious, I'm in. If I want raw, i'd buy a GT3RS.

I definitely agree about spending the money for an incremental upgrade at this point. And you're spot on with the other comment too. Heck, you could doll up a 997.2 series car with leather everything, wood trim, and all sorts of luxury oriented creature comforts or you could go raw with a GT3/3RS. The same will be true of the 991 and no one can convince me that the presence of a center console, some buttons, and a multifunction gauge is going to make a 991 variant GT3RS "too luxurious".

Mike,
You are so right. It is absolutely possible to load up the interior with all sorts of leather, wood etc options that have nothing to do with sportiness. And I do agree that when a 991 GT3 is available that it will have all the sportiness of a 911 and not a luxury GT car.
Cheers

These images are scaled such that the 991 appears to be exactly 4 inches longer in length than the 997. In this image, the wheelbase (measured between front and rear axles) then comes out 3 inches longer, indicating that the scaling is correct.
To my eyes, the 991 looks better proportioned. The longer WB is good and the lower height is good. I love the 997, but I think I like the 991 a little better. Have to see it for real, though.

The 991 is not getting any where near looking like a Ferrari. The 991 is slightly lower than the current 997. It is a little early to think some how this is the demise of our beloved 911. Porsche is not radically changing the 911.
In regards to the interior the interior has been revised with almost every new 911. If you look at the first 911 interior and then look at the 997 it has changed a lot. The new center console is not going to be as high as we might initially think. I am looking forward to these changes.
What I love about the 911 is it is a sports car you can drive every day and on weekends drive it to the track, play all day on the track with it and then drive it home. As I posted in another thread, I like the new commercial of the guy coming out of work and getting into his 911 GTS and just unwinding as he starts the car and revs the engine. How many of us have had that feeling?
The 991 is just going to build on what we all love about the 911.
Cheers,

Nobody seemed to complain about Porsche moving in a different design direction when the spyder came out. Wide, low, sleek, more Ferrari like. Who cares? It's a hit! Looks great. Performs great.
Which is exactly what the 991 will do.
Personally, I like that the lower, meaner 911 is looking poised to compete for the 21st century. I'm all in. Though, I'm guessing the *** gets better on the .2 cars.

991 is lighter, more powerful with better driving dynamics than the 997. What's not to like? Oh, and no sunroof!
If your argument is because it's not a classic anymore and you own a 997, that makes me laugh a little. I own a 964 and think it's not a classic so a 997, please... 997 are big, heavy, luxurious cars. And that's cool but let's not use the classic argument, it's ridiculous.
I understand you just spend a lot of money on a 997 that's getting older by the minute more and more info we get on the 991, but no need to use stupid arguments to make you feel better about your purchase.
You want a classic? Buy an older 911 (pre-73)
You want the latest and greatest from Porsche, buy the new 991.

I dont think the 964 is a classic either. I had one and preferred the model that preceded it, by quite a bit.

The simple truth is - both interior and exterior looks wise -- the 991 C2 and C2S walk all over the 997 equivalents. Not only does the 991 interior look much more modern - I think it looks sportier as well as it reminds me a lot of the new Lamborghini Aventador. The classic Porsche interior is just silly because the last Porsche interior that will look good when the car is 15 years old is the interior in the 993 which simply combined classic lines with good materials...
The first time I saw the 997 C2 and C2S I thought they looked okay, and much better than the 996 but still rather ugly by Porsche standards. They didn't move me the way the 993 owned by the local doctor did when I was younger.
The only thing left to note is whether all the electro-mechanical systems (namely the steering) have screwed up the beautiful driving feel of the 997.
For my money -- I'm gonna wait a couple years until I get back from my job overseas and pick up a 2011 GT3 RS. The lack of a Porsche Motorsports derived engine in the new 991 GT cars is the real downfall of the new series. Who wants a Porsche GT car with a street car motor?
For a sports car that you can use to reliably get to work everyday the 991 C2S looks to be the dominating winner over the 997 C2S -- at least as far as looks go...

Yes. The 991 is lighter and more powerful. If you crunch the numbers you can see that the HP (and corresponding torque) to weight ratio is higher in the new cars. In fact the new C2 is higher than the 997.1 C2S. Love it!

I am curious as to your avatar, and I’ve been meaning to ask you: Is that really a pic of the new 991 or is it a 997 with a photoshopped front end? Looks cool. I guess I like the 997 with the 991 front end. That would be ideal for me.
