I am much more interested to see new gt3 991 car when it will surface. that is where it should have a lot of improvements, hopefully.

Utkinpol, I am waiting on the GTxRS. I know it is a few years off but it is what I want. I looked at a few 7.s RSs here in SD and they were really nice especially that Lime Green at Pioneer but I want to PTS and I also want to Euro Delivery my RS.

Ignoring for the moment that Porsche makes hefty margin on 991's, I think 5% and 3.9% price increases for the Carrera and Carrera S respectively are not unreasonable when you consider the increase in raw material costs over the past year, the 13% decline in the US dollar vs the euro over the same period, and the fact that you're getting a significantly revised car in the 991 vs the 997.

I think the price is quite right ... now just need to wait a few weeks after the launch to get a 500 mile car for 15K less.
I really liked the car, and the biggest reason why I didn't buy a .2 RS is the new model coming out.

I think the BEST 911 to get in the next couple of years is the 997.2 GT3 RS! Maybe add some GT3 RS 4.0 parts and make it as close to cup car as possible.
Due to ALL the new emission, sound, MPG regulations the next GT3 will be watered down, most likely faster, but less raw, probably quieter, etc... I was in Nurburging last month and those were RIPPING by at incredible pace and raw power/noise.

Not to go of topic but... why are so many people crazy for the GT3 (rs) when the GT2 (rs) is the most powerful 911 ever produced by Porsche.
Hell a Turbo will out perform a GT3 so why does the GT3 seem to be the favorite for most... is it the price point?

"Other mechanical updates include a new engine for the base Carrera. Downsized by 0.2 liter from its previous iteration, the 3.4-liter flat-six (it’s different from the 3.4 found in the Cayman and Boxster) in the 991 will make 5 more hp than the 3.6, for a total of 350. The Carrera S will get 400 hp from its 3.8-liter, an increase of 15. Porsche claims a PDK-equipped Carrera will hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, or 4.2 when dispatched with the assistance of the optional Sport Chrono package’s launch control. Those times drop to 4.1 and 3.9 seconds for the Carrera S. We figure we’ll see a tenth or two better than Porsche’s estimates. Maximum velocity is 179 mph in the base car and 188 mph in the S."

I've always wondered about that.

question only is, what will 2011/2010 reasonably fresh GTS car sell for when 991 will start selling. if gap will be at $35K something level then it will become quite an attractive option.
but i really want to know what is it they going to do with 9a1 engine block. if all cars from now on, street and GTx will indeed use pretty much same engine with minor adjustments to intake then it is no longer important what car you buy from those series unless it`s a cup.

In real world testing the 997.2TTS WITH PDK and Sport Chrono will still nip it to 60mph. Don't get me wrong the 2RS will still spank any other 911 around any track any day. Depending if the driver is competent enough.

Also raised 911 prices allow for:
1) raised cayman/boxster prices and then
2) room for "another" entry level Porsche at the $40k threshold
Overall I'd say price/performance for the new models is a good deal when you consider the dollars strength and rising costs of materials.

Mostly due to the fact that GT3 is the fastest non-turbo car, lighter, and has the MOST involvement of driver amongst all 911 cars and sounds and perform the closest to a race/cup car. It maybe slower than Turbo in straight line, but is NOT slower than Turbo on track, which says a lot for having 100HP less!
The 991 turbo's are suppose to be even better with NO turbo lag at all... guess we'll have to wait and see
And as good as the GT3rs is it really is not comparable to the GT2rs but some times you've got to experience it to believe or accept it
The high price point keeps the GT2 (rs) exclusive and something to aspire to.
Don't know how Porsche is going to out do the 997 GT2rs in the 991 line up but I can't wait to find out

I'm on the same boat. I really think the 996 Carrera 4S is a gorgeous car. I used to go look at mine just to appreciate it's lines. I liked the regular Carrera OK (have had a couple), but of the modern cars Porsche's made, the 996 4S was a fantastic high water mark. I also like the 997.1 Carrera and the 997.2 GT3, not a fan of the 997 turbos, to each his own. For the record I look forward to the 991, though I'm not a fan of it's interior.
