The 991 is official! 993 still looks pretty good.

The 997 sloped down too much for me...the 991 comes UP in front at the head lights and seems blend gracefully with the rear fenders in a better way. The interior is...well...it's like all new interiors...too high tech, swoopy and electronically oriented. Overall I think the 991 has more balanced proportions than the 997. +1 for the 991.

Porsche hit this one out of the ballpark. It's too wide and long compared to the 993 or 996, but I've no plans to be in the market any time soon. No doubt I'll grow to like it, literally.

Yeah, my brain thought "Cadillac" or Lexus or something.

See, now that's the part I didn't like. It seems like almost a straight line, an inorganic shape.
Like the muscular bulging front fenders. Reminds me of a LeMans car (Panoz?).
PCNA..."are you listening?" Shoulda focus-grouped us first. We'd give you more data than you can handle Overall, my heart's not pounding with that "gotta have it" feeling. I think I'd rather take a Cayman S in RS orange and keep the change in my pocket.

I must admit that the 991's proportions look quite good (the best since the 993), but there are a few things that bug me:
1. Can they just line up the DRL with the bumper openings? They look really odd from some camera angles.
2. Lose the 911 logo (and maybe even the Porsche letters) in the back. It looks too busy. And who's going to confuse it with a Cayman?
3. Too many creases and lines in the rear.

But I think maybe the LED DRL's location is probably there for the safety and regulation issues. In Europe they started the 2008/89/EC directive beginning Feb 2011. So auto-on constant running safety LED DLRs are here to stay.
Those rear badges definitely need the 'delete model designation' option. Although I wonder if they were photoshopped on there for this series of pics. They look odd. We'll have to see.
The crease does seem a bit exaggerated, but the curves are well thought out and the engine bay lid has a nice angle to it that conforms to the rest of the car's curves, esp the hips.
And if one doesn't want a "GT" style version, then just get the 991 GT3. Modern cars may be bigger, but the reality is they blow away earlier versions with their performance and with way much better safety features.
Overall, it's a nice looking design and conforms well to the philosophy of the 911 as always being an evolutionary concept. And despite the naysayers who will always complain with anything new that comes out, it'll be no doubt an excellent performer. The 993 is truly a classic, but the last time I looked they were racing 997s and not 993s. Just because they're newer and bigger doesn't mean they are no longer competitive as a viable sports car.

The badging issue can be solved with a hair dryer and some Goo-gone. Or with "delete model designation".
Probably the reason few here are hyperventilating is that there are a lot of 993 elements in the design. You don't have the "Thank God, they fixed it" reaction you had when the 997 came out.
