I think the 991.1 will have round headlights. I think that there are stickers on the one in the video to disguise it. Everyone knows that all real 911s have round headlights, right?

If the headlights don't end up being round then the 997 will be the new 993 and will begin to skyrocket in value.

Yeah, lots of tricks are being played by stickers. You all see the Car and Driver article? The stickers are pretty clever, they mimic the older 996 and 997 elements. The ones on the lights have spaces to let the light thru but still look 996/7-ish. Clever. This one had some stickers, but hard to tell just how many, it was actually pretty clean looking. This is the most un-camouflaged one I've seen.

But I'm not a fan yet of this longer wheelbase and overall-larger 911. Supposedly it was made larger to accommodate the 2016 hybrid running gear. Yikes.

Like the look in general ... but look at those long/low taillights in the back and front -- every fender bender will be a multi-thousand dollar insurance extravaganza.

I find it interesting they made it longer to increase the size of the back seat AND to allow the engine to be moved forward about 4 inches - intimating mid engine is the best handling set up for a sports car. Will be interesting to see what the changes do to sales compared to the 996 and 997 variants.

I thought the increased wheelbase was due to a fuel consumption formula and that a larger car is able to meet a lower standard for fuel economy?

I don't think so. 993 values are holding firm because demand outpaces supply. There will not be a problem with 997s because Porsche produced more 997s compared to 996s. 997 prices already drop like the 996's depreciation curve and will continue to do so.

That is the main reason for the increase in wheelbase.

+1. bulges, yeah... Porsche are up to the same old tricks, wait till the gt3's and turbo come out. The marketing machine is very well lubed.

The nose has a bit of a Caymen look, but the rest is all 911. It sure sounds one.

It looks okay to me - I think it would actually be hard to be a designer on the 911 team, you have the weight of history behind you, and the expectations of a huge enthusiast community watching your every move. I would think it's gotta be tough to preserve the heritage but at the same time modernize the look. I think Porsche has gotten it right, but some other cars (the Corvette for one) just look worse and worse on every revision...

I agree about the newer Vettes, looking like mini Vipers more than Corvettes. But for Porsche, wouldn't going slightly retro, making the 991 more like an updated 993, make more sense?
