INsideline on new '12 911 (991)
http://www.insideline.com/porsche/91...rsche-911.html
i thot i start a new thread. Im very worried about the electric steering. The steering is one of my fav features of the 997.2.
the center stack was expected. the door cards look different. slightly reminds me of the R8.
I was soooo hoping the sport and sport + buttons would be on the steering wheel!
Anyhow will the mods create a 991 section?

Just a snippet:
"The next big change involves the wheelbase. Since its launch in 1963, the 911's short wheelbase has been a defining characteristic of the car much like the flat-6 engine in the trunk.
But now, and for only the fourth time in 48 years, that wheelbase has been extended. By how much we can't say, as our access to the car was made on the condition that we would keep certain details under wraps. We can say that the extra space between the wheels does more than merely provide more legroom in the back; it fundamentally affects the character of the car."
And yes, that new 'character of the car' will probably be very good, very stable, very high performing, but... will it 'dance' like a 911 does? The 911 classic character may be gone forever...

i think it will be great, think about the previous cayenne and current... lighter materials... upgraded power... better looks inside and out.. im sold.
only thing i dont like are the door cards... look bizarre.. i like the cayenne/panamera ones better.
and electronic ebrake is annoying as all hell, have it on the cayenne.. takes so much extra effort to mess with.. and doesnt let go instantly. gotta have foot on brake then push while still on brake..... then goes like 2 seconds later.

dear porsche jesus,
please do not make "chrome silver" the standard trim for all models, some of us REALLY enjoy "volcano grey" trim as it looks less like a guido mobile and more like trim should look, contrasting and subtle.

i do like the easier to access sport button/PSM off/sport exhaust/etc in middle.. before they were not ideal placement.
the AC controls are not ideal however, as in cayenne and pana.. its difficult to mess with passengers controls from driver side... then again the mono button is always close.
would like to see these "thin aluminum seats" in more detail, the front bolsters look to adjust up and out... interesting.

What is the whole on the right side of the steering wheel where most other cars would place the key?
Also love that they put tape over the Porsche logo on the steering wheel. Gosh, I wonder what kind of car that is? If only it had a badge to tell me? HA HA!

Interior looks to have gone Luxury...reminds me of a Mercedes or the Panamera.
Not digging the center stack at all, I wonder what a stick shift in that position will feel like ?
GTS value may be going up...

I'm guessing that there really is not going to be a compelling reason to upgrade to a 991. I'm sure it will be a great car. But if you have a C2S 997.2, which I have, why go for 15 more HP and a different interior. The performance difference will be negligible if at all. If you have a GTS, you actually get less power. Makes our current rides seem OK. Plus the longer wheel base, electric steering, etc., are big question marks. I'm sure that if you gave me a choice side by side, I may pick the 991. But, would I give them my car and $40k for one?

I'm sure the 991 will be an amazing performer but now there is absolutely no doubt that it's a GT Car. In fact the way this article is written it makes me think that the 991 will handle similarly to the 928 which isn't a bad thing depending on your perspective.
No more hydraulic steering....hmmm
I'm really curious to know what the direction will be for the 981.....

could it be the dreaded electric start/stop button?
