Rumour or no, it's the first thing I've read about the 991 that made we actually want one. And I bet I'm not alone in that.

I'm hoping that the explanation for the extra 4" holds up...

.
I've also read the same thing, Porsche is increasing the cars wheelbase to skirt around CAFE mpg requirements.

Porsche is also making the Boxster/Cayman larger for the same reason although the side benefit is a slightly larger interior which may be a benefit for taller people.

I sincerely doubt the wheelbase increase has anything to do with CAFE. The engineering for a car debuting this year was done many years ago; probably not long after the 997 came out in 2004/2005, and long before the upcoming regs based on vehicle size were established.

The 997 has very large front and rear overhangs given the wheelbase, and basically useless back seats. The longer wheelbase makes for better proportions, more interior space, and a better ride befitting the GT car that the 911 has become. Any CAFE benefit would be a bonus.

I am not sure if this is true. The reasoning is to comply with mpg requirements AND the desire to make 911 more GT-like, with larger rear seats... as demonstrated by all the new Porsche advertising pushing that point.

However, if true... I think that's the ONLY thing so far I've liked about the 991... if true, it'd gonna be either reserved for GT3, or as an additional option costing $20K+!

I can't see many 996 or 997 owners moving up for an extra inch of rear seating, or do I believe there are that many big and tall guys that can't fit into the front seats.
As for that smooth GT ride, no thanks.
I'm holding on to that KERS rumor, or I'm holding on to my 997S.
Would a KERS system be compatible with my old school clutch, or does PDK come along for the ride, too ?

Yep, I am so hoping this comes true. Cayman with a slightly bigger interior is my dream car.

I would guess it would be more like a boost when you floor the gas pedal... not sure you can trust the general public (and their lawyers in the US) with a boost button.

If youve ever been in a Tesla, you will know how great the torque from a standstill feels for the electric motors... add this to a gas engine tuned for HP at high revs and youve get a winner !!

I'm glad I have a 997/2. A very good product. QC seems fine, incorporates design refinements that are significant. In the future, will be looked upon as a best of series. And yes, that 4S is esp. sweet.

My wife says only $50K for an extra 4" would be worth it.

yeah... but $150K track toy is out of my budget. honestly i do not care much what porsche will do with 991. I am mostly waiting to see if they will offer 480hp motor for reasonable price plus I want to see how they will differentiate gt3 motors from 'street' base and 'S' cars motors if they all will be built based on 9a1 block.

Become? The 911 was ALWAYS a Grand Touring automobile.
