991 confirmed to have KERS--check this out:
|
i honestly hope all that stuff will be optional and price of base gt3 cars will remain close to its current $100K mark. if they will jerk it up $50K+ it will be very frustrating as it will render it off my radar.

good article, thanks for post up

I'm sure there will be plenty of concerns about potential additonal cost, how the handling/character/tradition of the car will be ruined/compromised, etc. some of which might have merit but ALL of which will be total speculation until we have the car in fromt of us.
So I'll just make a general comment about this information, if it's true. How can a 911 that's lighter, faster, cleaner, more efficient, and uses the latest race bred technology be all bad?:) |
Wheelbase up 4 inches?
Overall car length up 2.75 inches? What's next...a third door on the passenger's side? |

Anyone else notice how very slowly Porsche is eliminating the rear grill?
With each generation it is smaller, and with less slats. https://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/re...9_911_Rear.jpg http://www.thecartorialist.com/wp-co...angle_rear.jpg http://993c4s.com/wp-content/uploads.../97rearc4s.jpg http://www.qscarreview.com/_/rsrc/12...sCarReview.jpg http://carspictureblogs.com/wp-conte...ept-Design.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5764306_n.jpg |
Well, theoretically today's water cooled cars don't need the grilles once required by air-cooled motors and now only have them to assist in cooling the engine bay.
I just love that green 993 4S! |
Great. Now when the battery goes dead you'll need 240 volts just to open the hood.
I'm not liking all this "improvement". For all the size increase do you think they'll put it in a spare? |

Having said that, porsche will have kers or some equivalent in the 918 so it would not surprise me if the 991 has kers sometime in the future or available as an option. It may be something that they are keeping up their sleeve for the 991.2 refresh. I can't imagine that they would put it in their base car given that it'll take some time to get proven in a road car application. |

I tend to agree - the lengthening of the wheel base does not automatically point to kers.

So the 991 gets a "Push to Pass" button...great for for DE's?...! ;-)

If you click on the KERS link in the first article up comes this
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/07/r...ansmission-re/ The Autoblog "source" is interesting...a Rennlist enthusiast.. A 'round the world discussion of a rumor fueled by a rumor, perhaps That one bit will be enough to have purists up in arms, but that's not the end of it. An enthusiast on the Rennlist forum citing high-up Porsche sources also claims the GT3 will pack a 4.0-liter flat-six with some 480 horsepower on tap and nearly 200 fewer pounds to schlepp around |
Ah Jeez ! They went to press on a Rennlister rumor.....nice
