US sales of that 3.4 model will be tiny, unless the cost gap is significant. I think this mirror idea is crazy, how much MPG can that be adding?

But as we've said on other threads - here come the EPA designed Porsches, and their inability to get a waiver to average in with the VW fleet.

YES, and the 991 could be the next 996 with "futuristic" stuff - what's next, futuristic looking headlamps that diverge from all of the other 911's? Thought Porsche would have learned from their 996 mistake by now.

Mirrors have always been a big topic with concerns to mpg. They actually create a lot of drag. We discussed this in vehicle dynamics in school.

But in my opinion that's besides the point. If you want good mileage get a prius.

But at the end of the day, I guess it's up to what the government wants to shove down our throats for mandatory mpg requirements.

Porsche's focus is to keep V8 power in their two "cash cow" cars - the Cayenne and the Panamera. The other cars have to "give". 6 cylinder power in the Boxster/Cayman won't last past 2016, those cars will get turbo 4 cylinder power, that is my prediction.

My 2010 C4S seems like a better and better "investment."

It's also going to be a new world in another couple years in terms of competition. I'm not necessarily talking about a seamless overlap in buyers though. There's the new Shelby Mustang, the C7 Z06, the next M3, the next GTR, etc.

Yeah, but there's a limit as to how much competition will affect some potential 911 buyers. Myself, I'm not a Mustang or Corvette person. I looked at M3's, but still leaned toward owning a 911. Japanese cars do NOTHING for me. The GTR is the only Japanese car I'd even consider owning, and even then, when I stand next to one the styling does NOTHING for me.

For better or worse, Porsche has us 911 afficianados by the proverbial short hairs when it comes to competition. There is just nothing I'd consider buying on the 911's plane of existence. The next step up for me would be a "grail car" such as a Lamborghini or Ferrari. Barring my ability to purchase one of those, I'd still be looking at a 911. And if I don't like the current gen (thinking ahead to the 991) then I'll buy used.

Do u think Porsche product managers look around here for pre-reaction of existing customers? I used to do that As a prod manager.

Yes I think you're right about a good percentage of owners. I have the last generation M3 and will probably buy another M3, or an M5. I'd also consider the next Z06 or GTR. Maybe I'm the exception though.

It's an EU designed Porsche; they had their future standards established a long time before the EPA. This car has been in development for a while...

So if the 911 'S' has a 3.4, what will the 'non-S' have? And what will the Boxster and Cayman 'S' models have??

This 'RS' rumor has been alive for a while now. A can't believe Porsche is so desperate. Very disappointing.

I don't believe Porsche will introduce an RS with only 400 HP when the current one has 450. If one manufacturer has delivered consistent DNA in their products that is Porsche. I even doubt the next 3.8 will have less torque than the current one. I may be wrong of course, but that will be inconsistent with recent history.
