Interesting speculation Bob.
Frankly I wish they would decrease the length of the 911 and do some diet modifications instead.

All those are possible, as well as a tranny-engine flip to make it mid-engine. All of those diminish the car's character.

I do not care for more performance. I prefer keeping the car's traits.

+1. These cars are becoming pigs.

If they do want to grow as much as Porsche AG has said in the past year or so, they will likely segment the market more.

Does anyone know when these will be for sale? I've seen some sources saying summer '11, while others say summer '12.

It was never going to be a 998. Internally the number 991 has been appearing more and more. Remember, numbers are not relevant to anything.

They are saving the 998 model designation for the 911 that gets the 8 cylinder engine...

I want the next generation to be a smaller car that is at least a couple hundred lbs lighter and loses some of the electronic goodies (PSM and DSC). I would consider the recent lightening job on the Cayenne a good start for the 911.

911 enthusiasts have been saying that since 1989 with the prospect of the 964.

I'm inching closer and closer to a 9m engine in a 993 ... or a Shark 3.9 in a 996 ... or ... in a 993? : )

Hi. Yeah. It's in my pre-nup: "until we're down to our bottom dollar, I don't sell the Jalopy." : ) I'm going to be buried in that one, I think. Then again, I wish I'd had the ***** to cut away the cob webs and write a check for Jochen's GT2. Coulda Woulda Shoulda. Every time I drive the 993, I get back in a 997 of some sort and feel like I've put on pants three sizes too big and tried to run 100 yard sprint. : )
