991 sales beginning in early 2011?

My guess is we won't see it till 2012 here in the US. Makes more sense as March is just around the corner and production and gearing up for a major change such as you guys mention seems like a radical departure from the current platform that seeing a new and orderable car by next March for US showrooms just seems unlikely to me especially in the current auto sales market environment in the US and with Porsche still pushing Panamera and Cayenne remodelled sales. My 2 cents.

No, but I guarantee they're working hard to keep the wheelbase short while balancing against other demands for the platform. A longer wheelbase in the 911 isn't a design goal for Porsche, it's an uncomfortable but perhaps necessary compromise in the face of competing requirements. Porsche knows that a longer wheelbase detracts from the handling characteristics that the 911 is famous for.
If Porsche doesn't make a 911 that appeals, you could always build your own?

Well, the new wheelbase is already baked in and there's nothing any of us can do about it. I think it will change the cars handling in a positive way but hopefully it won't spoil it for you at the same time. I guess we'll know for sure in a year or so.

^ That's the Panamera coupe.
So they're lengthening the wheelbase 4" to make the back seat more comfortable? Please. I thought the 911 was a sports car. If someone needs to put people in the back seat, porsche offers the panamera.
So the new 991 will get bigger, heavier and softer. Sounds like it's a GT car now.

Remember when the 996 came out and everyone freaked out about it being water cooled? Porsche knows. It will still be an unbelievable sports car with go cart like handling. The 997 wasn't even longer than a Toyota Prius, so the 4 inches won't hurt, in fact knowing Porsche it with contribute to making the 911 a better handling car some how.
I think the 991 will be great. New 911s are always great, and before every new one people always worry it is going to be horrible, but it never is.

The new 991 will have a 4 inch longer wheelbase BUT it WON'T be 4 inches longer. The longer wheelbase will in effect move the rear weight bias closer to a mid engine configuration while improving rear seat room. May be hard to conceive mentally but Porsche always exceeds expectation while consistently improving product.
