Default Cabriolet Question

I currently own a 993 Cabriolet. I am looking for a newer Cabriolet. It seems as though some Cabriolet's have a smaller hump where the convertible top stores and some have a larger hump where the convertible top stores. My preference is a smaller hump. Can anyone let me know which model and year has the smaller hump.
I appreciate your help in advance.

What is “hump” by your definition?

I assume that by “hump” the OP means refers to the overall shape of rear of the car with the top open. The top design is very similar in the 996 and 997 generation, and it was a big improvement over the 993 and earlier cars. It was improved again for the 991 cars and that design essentially carried into the current 992 cars. None of the cars starting with the 996 have a large hump like the 993. As mentioned above, the 991.1 cars really offer the first truly modern top in a 911. These cars began production in late 2012 and early 2013. The top for 991 and 992 cars looks much more smooth and sleek when closed, and it has a minimal “hump” when opened. The 991 cars also introduced the electronically controlled wind deflector screen, which is a big improvement over previous models.

For comparison, I’ve posted a pic of my 997 cabriolet (2008 model) and my 991 cabriolet (2014 model).

I was looking at 997 cabriolets when I bought my car several years ago. (Hard to believe it's been 4 years already.) As Dennis posted above the tops look very similar when down. I found the huge difference to be with the top up. The silhouette of a 991/992 with the top up is very similar to the non-cabriolet version. The 996/997 look like a convertible with the top up and the silhouette is nothing like the coupes. For that reason - and many others - I purchased a 991. I'm having some major issues with the top right now but I'm still happy with the purchase from an aesthetic and performance perspective.

The 991.1 and newer Cabriolets were totally redesigned with regards to the Cabaret top, how it's manufactured, how it operates, yada yada ... they were also designed to have the same side profile as the coupe (with the top up) ... with the top down there is no significant/noticeable hump (imo).

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm sorry that I wasn't 100% clear with my description of the hump that I'm trying so badly to avoid, yet still get a Cabriolet. I have a few follow up questions. It appears that I am to focus on a 991.1, at minimum, in order to have the convertible body style that you have been so kind to describe. What model year did the 991.1 begin production. Also, can I assume the 991 Cabriolet body style is different than the 991.1. Does the 991 Cabriolet have the convertible body style that I am desperately trying to avoid?
I appreciate your continued help.

The 991 and the 991.1 are the same thing ... it became a .1 when the .2 was introduced (to distinguish the two generations). In the United States the 991 was introduced as a 2012-1/2 model ... The 997.2 was also manufactured as an early 2012 model. Pretty easy to tell the difference if you look at the mirrors, the front, and the rear lights.

this day and age Google/AI will get you lots of information on the models, the generations, the differences in convertible top construction and function, etc.

Thanks for your help. Looks like I will buy either a 991 or 992. Cabriolet. With the top closed, neither looks like a convertible body.
Again, I appreciate your help.
