This is a continuation of this thread, which was following the adventure of buying and living with my first 911.
Loved this machine very much, but I felt I needed something different after working on it for so long.
I drive my 911 daily, dropping my son to school, canyon runs, going biking... I searched long and hard for the next car, ventured out to look for AMG GT's, R8 V8, but I went back to the 911.
Out of the 911 generations, I zeroed in on the 991.2, for the engine, and the manual availability.
Began the search, as always, nationwide. Couldn't find what I wanted at first, then landed on "almost done" deals several times...
I found my car at a dealer (Aston Martin / Rolls-Royce) in Denver.
After negotiating, and using a local shop found on RL for PPI, the deal was done!
As it is customary, I flew in to drive the car back to California. This time with my son, which added to the specialness of this pickup: First picture I have ever taken !
Build sheet for this 991.2 S:
176 Sport Exhaust System
433 20" Carrera S Wheels
446 Wheel center caps with colored Porsche Crest
487 Manual Transmission
603 Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)
651 Electric slide/tilt sunroof
9VL Bose Surround Sound System
AG Standard Interior in Black
P06 Power Sport Seats (14-way) with Memory Package
P3 Racing Yellow
P3D Premium Package i.c.w. Power Sport Seats (14-way)
QR5 Sport Chrono Package
XDG Wheels Painted in Black (High-Gloss)
Some pics from the road trip back:
Very much loving the generational jump from the 997.2! The car is more GT, but also with a better chassis (compliance and perceived capability).
I found that the car seems to "vibrate" or "shake" a bit more (the 997 felt more "solid" ), I will have to investigate that.
Something the PPI missed, was what I believe is the transmission mount to be failing (I can feel some slop in it).
Other than that, super happy with the car. The engine is phenomenal!
I did 3 things almost right away...
1- Fixing the broken windshield washer hose (super easy) Brand new hose assembly Done! I cleaned it all after this picture
2- Clear side markers
Much better!
3- Remove the rear seats to create more space for my little dude behind!
GT3 like With the seat! This trim cover I had to buy to complete the install
After taking the car to some drives around the Bay Area, I knew I needed to install a Numeric shifter. Found one on the local classified, BOOM:
First mod! more things removed side by side, Numeric feels way nicer!
Testing the new shifter!
Enjoying the car since then, going from daily duties, to driving, to mountain biking:
Recently, went for my first home made service. All I can say is that I prefer working on the 997 platform. This was way more involved that what I prefer.
Oil change with Driven oil
New spark plugs
New air fiter
Oil filter
both cabin filters
Serpentine belt check
The calm before the storm!
All of the goodies
Old oil out!
Comparing the old vs. new filter. Much needed.
Same goes with the oil filter!
Loving the Driven products, continuing with them. Next flush, will send a sample to speediagnostix.
The filter is absolutely perfect!
Lot of stuff at the back of this generation...
A lot of time spent wiping, cleaning, degreasing, I feel much better!
YUCK!
Spark plugs looked great.
All and all, this took a pretty good part of a day. I miss specific workshop manual specific to this 991.2, with torque specs etc. to make sure I do this right.
The most complicated part was removing the rearmost spark plugs, but doable.
Now, what next:
Pilot sport cup2 ordered!
I will powdercoat the wheels silver, as I have black. Bought some monochrome logos to match, hopefully this is done next week

Outstanding buy! Finding a 991.2 C2S with a manual is a rarity indeed, much less with the spec you like. Great post and such an adventure with that car so far. You're an awesome dad too fitting your son's seat like that and I see the kid sized MTB on the roof. Room for a child seat, bike rack, frunk for other stuff... all reasons why the 911 is the ultimate sports car. I always enjoy the occasional Costco run in mine and seeing the looks on the faces of people who don't know a 911 is rear engine when I drop a case of water or giant pack of Charmin into the frunk.
I'm curious about your spark plugs and filters, as well as the condition of your serpentine belt at your mileage.
Well done!!!
Any idea the mileage on your air filter /cabin filters?
I'm due for plugs..air filter. Serp belt next spring.
honestly I’m not sure. The car was CPO all of its life, it lost the status when the previous owner traded it in after 1,500 miles to buy a McLaren… I couldn’t reinstate it unfortunately. I’m working to obtain the records, as I love a proper paper stack!

Thank you I bought this car to enjoy, that is for sure. Regarding the mileage, the car has now 36,000 miles, and everything was tip top. I didn’t change the belt as it arrived one day too late, but I’ll keep it to replace at the next oil change.

I said I would never buy a black car again! My wife is a bit conscious of the yellow, she doesn’t enjoy riding in this one as much vs. a black one but I love it, racing yellow pops so much in real life! Can’t wait to see it with the silver wheels .
I'm thinking of adding a roof rack for bikes in the summer. Looks like you had the suction mount style in one picture, and then the OEM channel mount style in a later picture. Why the switch? Functionality, looks, ease of use? Thanks for the input!
Hi there! so, for feedback regarding the roof racks:
I used the SeaSucker system while debating going for a full rack. I had the opportunity to access this for free.
Pros of the SeaSucker:
Super fast to install (like 5 minutes total)
Cheaper overall than rack plus bars
Cons of this system:
Stability? I know this is a state of the art system, but I don't feel great about it (I have an ebike up there).
Leaving suction marks on the roof, even after cleaning / wiping.
In the end I went with the OEM rack. The system to attach the bars is quite amazing, and super robust.
It takes more time to install all the stuff, but it feels more secure!
A lot of Porsche people swear by SeaSuckers. SeaSucker does say that the front mount should be on glass. I've seen tons of pics of them on GT3s and all sorts of 911s. I just ordered one for my Taycan which has a full glass roof.
