Default Installed Power Steering Plus

I had the dealer install PSP on my 991S. It took three visits to the dealer to do it but they finally got it working. Only charged me $250 since I had to bring in my car three times. I had PSP a while back on my 2013 Boxster and when I got the 991 without it the steering seemed very heavy at slow speeds. I read lots of comments pro and con but decided to get it. I'd like to dispel some of the rumors/comments I read:

1. Makes your 911 feel like a Lexus. Total BS! It adds some assist at slow speed but doesn't change the feel of the steering beyond that.
2. PSP is for weak people with arm problems. While this will help those people it makes the car easier to maneuver at slow speed in tight situations. Who wouldn't want that?

I'm much happier with my car and glad I got it. Would I have gotten it if it cost $2,000...probably not, but for $500 software fix its definitely worth it to me. If you do it and don't like it you can uninstall it, but I doubt you will.

Appreciate you sharing that as I've been debating removing PSP from my 991.1 50th, maybe I should just leave it and let sleeping dogs lie..

You can have someone with PIWIS code it for you. Find your someone local at your PCA club. For reference https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-...l#post19612893

I have had it on all three 991s that I have owned. Best thing since sliced bread and an option that will be valued decades from now by collectors. Name another option that will let you autocross with your pinky finger? Truly a game changer.

* It is nice to have at low speeds, like maneuvering around a parking lot.

FWIW, you can also enable/diable PSP with the Thinkdiag unit. I disabled it on my car and I think it's fairly noticeable.

How did you disable it? By going to GT3 steering or?

No, GT3 steering sw isn't available for the 991.2. I found the instructions in another thread on here.

PSP drives me nuts coming from 4 911s without it. Totally numbs the steering feel. Cruising on the highway is where it bothers me the most. You have to try hard to keep your car from swaying within the lanes.

Hope my dealer can delete it. Its far too assisted. Worse than a cadillac.

Pretty sure you can delete it with the Thinkdiag. Search for instructions:

Interesting that PSP affects you while cruising. I thought is deactivates after a certain speed.

It firms up at high speeds.

Standard Power steering Plus is a speed sensitive power steering system. At high speeds, the steering firms up and responds with greater precision, while steering comfort remains outstanding. At low speeds, the steering ratio adjusts for easy maneuvering and parking.

there was probably something else going on because PSP does not affect the car at highway speeds

It does not provide extra assist at speed. Only at low speeds, i.e. parking lot.
The steering is still quite firm at highway speeds.
Having to muscle the steering wheel while parking is not something I miss from my cars from the '80s.
