@c1pher : How does your unit react in my step away far enough to lose carplay connection but get back into car within that 10 minute window when the console port is still powered?
I am not sure. However, as soon as I open the car door, my phone starts CarPlay before I am even in the driver seat.
Well I have something I can contribute to this thread. I went ahead and decided to give the CarlinKit 5.0 a try. So far, I give it a 6.5 out of 10 in terms of how it compares to wired CarPlay. I even went in and updated the internal firmware immediately. For Waze, it appears to work fine although I can easily detect the lag. It’s just a bit glitchy on Pandora & SiriusXM which is what I use a lot. Seems to have trouble smoothly & seamlessly connecting. Could be that I’m using a brand new iPhone 16 Pro and perhaps there are some bugs to be worked out. For the price of <$60, I’m not terribly disappointed and willing to hang onto it a bit to see if the bugs/glitches find a way of working themselves out or I simply get used to them and it won’t bother me as much. Time will tell.
As for power, I am custom rigging a mount made from an old Rennline magnetic phone mount. I am sticking a MagSafe charger onto the round disc that previously held the magnets. I never liked that magnet mount anyway, as I found the magnets to simply be too weak to hold the phone. Hopefully when my MagSafe charger arrives and I get this set up I will be happy with that.
I only used the mag charge part as the rennline was already mounted …so I just popped off the rennline round disc and put this one on instead.
i have an iPhone 15 and the magnets in the one above hold through all my spirited driving include launch control (stage 3+ TTS) It is solid, Way better hold than the rennline. I can even feel it align the phone when it gets close.

Does anyone know how long this CarlinKit 5.0 stays on for after the car is turned off? It seems like it stays on a while. I left the armrest open so I can see it through the window and it was still on after a few minutes of being out of the car.
I’m just here to update after a couple weeks with the CarlinKit 5.0. I have to say it’s really hard to like this thing but I’m trying. Very glitchy. Inconsistent. Sometime it works fine with no issues. Sometimes the sound just turns very staticky for no reason. The getting in and out of the car to pump gas thing where it doesn’t reconnect right is a little annoying. I’ve found myself a handful of times already having to disconnect the unit. I’m frequently contemplating just going back to the old way of just plugging it in. I don’t feel like its worth replacing with another.

That’s exactly the one I have too. You can even see when I purchased it. Judging by the average star rating, seems that these things are far from flawless/perfect for all users.

That's where I am with the Ottocast unit. I've gone back to just using the wired connection.
The bummer (well, kinda) is that I got rid of the little metal plate in the case so i could go with the wireless magsafe charging functionality, which makes the magnetic connection much weaker. So an accidental bump of the phone sends it falling off the magnetic holder. I'll probably go back to adding the metal plate, which screws with magsafe functionality.
I am using a unit off of aliexpress that i paid 10 dollars for. It works as well as the more expensive from Amazon or dedicates sites. They are all the same internals and SW with different form factors.

I haven't had any of your problems. Could it be defective. You could return it and try another. I plugged it in in the center armrest, paired it and it is perfect. One time someone plugged their phone into the usb in the glove box which took over the CarPlay link. Just unplugged that cord, unplugged Carlinkit, replugged Carlinkit and it started right up. I would definitely try and return it. Shouldn't have all of those problems. Make sure iPhone is up to date on software and do a hard reset. Good luck. I also have one in my 2019 Speedster, but it is a 3.0 I think.
I should say connectivity with the Ottocast wasn't the issue as much as the sound quality. More often than not (but not always) the sound was distorted/scratchy.
carlinkit works great but keep in mind your car will keep the USB on for like 20 minutes and will fight your phone for the Wi-Fi connection after you get out of the car you should turn your Bluetooth off and turn CarPlay off on the phone or you’ll run into trouble
Carlinkit 5.0 has worked great for me other than this understandable issue. Has anyone come up with a clever workaround yet, besides unplugging it when not in use? I'm thinking along the lines of a USB cutoff switch of some sort that's triggered by ignition state. Not sure there's anything plug and play without doing wiring but ... open to suggestions.
I've used a number of these wireless Carplay dongles. Have had issues with most - launching, keeping connections, sometimes audio quality, etc. Currently using the Jemluse adapter that I found on Amazon. Been happiest with this one. I have 2 in my wife's 991.2 and 1 in my 957.
