Default 2018 911 991.2 Carrera CPO+1 - should i buy???

I'm about to complete the purchase of a 2018 911 Carrera 7-speed manual. I will be the 4th owner. It has 23k miles on it. It's mint bumper-bumper.

Should I spend $3300 for a 3rd year of CPO? I know the 991.2 is supposed to be highly reliable. If I sell before the 3 years is up the balance can be transferred to the new owner. Do you think this would help with the resale value and provide some comfort for a new owner?

THANKS!

You’re already thinking about the next owner? How long are you planning to hold onto it?

So if I understand you correctly, you would be buying with 2 years of CPO starting at time of purchase, and you're asking if you should spend another $3300 for one more year? Doesn't sound like you're even sure you want to keep it for three years so I would pass on the extra year of CPO.

General consensus I've seen is that instead of spending ~3$k on one extra year, you are better off spending ~$5k to ~$7k on extended coverage for 4-6 years from a reputable provider (Fidelity comes to mind but just search the forums and you will find lots of threads about options).

Usually there are a couple active people on this site that re-sell these sorts of extended warranties who would be happy to answer your questions.

Should I spend $3,300 for a 3rd year of CPO? Yes, just because the car has a reputation for being highly reliable, doesn't mean it wont fail in your stewardship. Price out a replacement transmission, engine???? $3,000 is chump change in comparison. BTW 23K miles is perfect. Make certain the maintenance is up go date..there is a big one at 4 years...

I know the 991.2 is supposed to be highly reliable. I have a 991.2 GTS, tenth Porsche for me over 35 years, and simply the best. I have had 0 problems in 2 1/2 years of ownership. I will renew my warranty in January of 2025 for a another 3 years.

If I sell before the 3 years is up the balance can be transferred to the new owner. Depends oil the Warranty company. I have Fidelity I use (Michael) mbernardo1111@gmail.com, a RENNLIST SPONSOR out of Rhode Island. He does provide a special Rennlister discount. His pricing was the best when I was looking 2 1/2 years ago.

Do you think this would help with the resale value and provide some comfort for a new owner? Who knows? Contact Michael: mbernardo1111@gmail.com

THANKS!

My only reason for buying a warranty is the PDK as most other costs, other that that one, are tolerable. But you don’t have one so pass.

No do not buy the third year. 2018 991.2 with manual transmission is about as bullet proof of any 911 ever made..... The manual transmission is the best and always in demand. Easy to sell when you want.

$3300 for one additional year does not sound like a good value. Check out the Fidelity warranty forum. Michael Bernardo has a site that you check various options and get a price for the extended warranty policy. I think that would be much more cost effective.

I'm always thinking about the next owner whether it's a 911 or a Bobcat. Resale value, maintenance history, remaining warranties, etc. are all a consideration when I look down the road a couple years.

In 6 months or 2 years another toy may strike my fancy and I may look to sale one of my toys to fund the purchase.

I bought a CPO 991 in December and considered doing the 3rd year of CPO as well. Ultimately decided the 3K+ wasn't worth it - but it's a good warranty through Porsche, so I'd say if cost is no object, by all means do it. Otherwise, I'd pass (as I did as the car was already pretty top of my budget I wanted to spend).
