Default if it ticks all the boxes, but doesn't have sport chrono...?

Been on the hunt for a 991.2 7MT, and have stumbled upon one that has everything I want. Beyond it being a manual, it's the right color (kinda rare), wheels, slicktop, sport exhaust, low miles, all the things.

But it doesn't have sport chrono.

I have never driven a car with it, but am intrigued by the rev matching.

Is it all that?

If a car was perfect in every other way, would you let that small item on your wishlist go? Or is it a gotta-have option?

Probably more important if your getting a PDK car.

I ordered my manual w/o sport chrono. On a manual car it's useless.

I have a 7MT 991.2 with Sport chrono. The rev matching is very nice, gives a great little burr when downshifting and hitting 5k rpm. I had a hard time hitting 13 psi boost in normal mode. In sport 2 I hit instantly. The sport 2 generates almost a 1 psi boost at stop light which results in zero turbo lag. Chrono does alter mapping even with 7MT. My kid would stall out if I switched from Sport 2 to standard. Is it mandatory, that's up to you, I definelty recommend it. With PDK and launch control it an absolute must. Even 7MT the chrono delivers very nice attributes.

Base carrera 7MT.

I know some say it's useless on a Manual-trans car, but yeah, @HardRider makes good points.

Maybe I just have to get my heel-toeing down to an art.

I get the feeling that rev matching was invented for those who aren't terribly comfortable driving a MT.
You're not missing anything without it...

If money isn’t a consideration, get it. Better to have it than regret not getting it. I had it on my 997 and never used it, but at the time I don’t think I realized it was more than a clock ha ha

This. It’s a niceity if you have it I guess, even GT cars don’t have sport chrono. I feel like sport chrono and sport exhaust are the two top things people look for but it’s not the end of the world and if you decide to sell, you will be able to. I don’t think not having sport chrono does anything meaningful to resale value.

It's less about money being a consideration, and more about the fact that I stumbled upon a car that has everything else on my wishlist. But I don't have to get it. I can keep searching.

I like that clock tho

If this car is everything BUT Sport Chrono just do it. I searched for more than a year as I was EXTREMELY specific. The everything car that I found did not have XM for some reason which I have had and use in all my vehicles for the past 21 years. Never hesitated, just did it. You really think that you need or would miss it? I got over the XM thing on mine because it was everything else i wanted. FWIW. Good luck!

yeah, that's the thing. It's got everything else. (It's a Miami Blue slicktop with a manual transmission. I might never see that combo again!)

I don't plan to autocross or track it. (I have a miata for autocross, if I ever want to go back to doing that again. When I did AX i wound up staying in the same gear the whole time!)

Might do a Porsche DE day now and again. I did those in my Cayman and it worked just fine.

It's more about enjoyable trips on country roads and longer drives, and I'm not heel-toeing it too much on those.

Doesn’t have Sport Chrono? Just put a tune on it and enjoy not having to put it in Sport every time you turn the car on. Doesn’t have PSE? Upgrade the exhaust. Doesn’t have PASM? Guess what you can do to fix that! All of these things are just factory upgrades for parts that you can get aftermarket upgrades.

I agree with jimmyjam. The odds of finding exactly the option combo you want on a used 991 are tiny anyway, and since you want the 7MT, that makes the odds even smaller. Don’t let perfect get in the way of very good.
