Hello,

I'm thinking about purchasing a base model 2014-2016 991 coupe with sunroof ideally (no targa or cabriolet) and running it for a few years. I'm entirely new to Porsche, but I drove a 992 the other day and was shocked to find that i fit just right in the car.
Are the two cars close enough in head and knee room? Are there specific interior packages/seats that are problems with interior space?

I'd mostly be driving solo, or with my 5'4 wife in the passenger seat and my 9 year old behind her.

There don't seem to be any 991s for me to check out within a reasonable driving distance from Sacramento.

Seats haven't changed much. Did you have the 18-way seats in the 992 that you drove?
By the way, your 9 year old will probably fit in the back for about another month before someone gets strapped to the roof-rack. .

I'm not sure if they were the 18 way seats. The car is off their website now so I can't verify. Looking at the seat options, i think it was at least "sport seat plus" but cant say for certainty. It definitely felt like there weren't nearly as many controls as I see in the link.

Further reading: Looks like I'm best served by avoiding the sunroof.

I don't want to repeat the problem I had with my corvette-- I only fit in the car if i wasn't having back pain, and had to contort slightly to make it work. Ended up only driving that car very little because of that.

6'7 should work in a 991 coupe, but it'll likely come down to how much of your height is in your legs vs your torso.

No sunroof will get you a little more headroom, if need be.

I'm a relatively normal leg/torso ratio human at 6'0" on a good day and had what felt like miles of headroom in my 991.2 with the glass sunroof.

A friend snapped a photo of me while driving. I've outlined where my head is as it's dark-on-dark.




I do tend to run seats all the way down on the rear, jack up the front a little bit, then recline slightly. You could get even more room if you recline more, obviously. There's plenty of room.

I’m 6’4” and I have to move my seats forward and up to actually press the pedals and see through the middle of the windshield. I have plenty of room for a helmet and don’t touch the headliner with it on. Granted, I have no sunroof and carbon buckets that sit low.

But, bodies are weird and there’s a lot of variations between seats and sunroof configurations. Your best bet is to find cars nearby and see how you fit in multiple configurations. Perhaps a Cars & Coffee might be a worthy outing? I find most owners are happy to have people sit in their cars. You might contact the local PCA and see if they have any events coming up that’ll be flush with options.

I am 6'6" and don't have an issue - seat is NOT all the way back. I do have a Targa that helps with getting in and out the car :-)

as perhaps a bit of luck a 2017 showed up at a local GM dealership. Just took it for a drive. It had the 14 way seats and they were just fine although the upper bolsters poked me a little bit.

I have a few concerns about the car though I’ll make a different thread for it.

Not that this helps you, but I have a friend who is 6'9" and I took him for a ride in my 987.2 Cayman S. Now that was funny.

I'm 6'3", not thin and usually get pants hemmed with a 34" inseam, and I fit fine in a 991.2 Targa with the 14 way seats (which I prefer over the 18 way).

Though my 15yo regularly comments that my head has only an inch clearance when I'm getting into the driver seat, as I generally sit backward into the seat and then swing in my legs. I have the seat almost all the way back for regular driving. At 5'8" my kid now tends to sit across the two seats, as sitting upright behind the passenger requires the passenger seat to be slid far enough forward to be a challenge for anyone else over 5'6". It's definitely not a long drive family vehicle.

So it depends on your proportions. Somewhat longer legs wouldn't be a problem, but someone with a taller torso might have headroom concerns.

One option, consider renting one for a few days if the Turo app has one in your area. I did that for a '14 991.1 and loved it.

Yes, confirmed you're fine. I'm 6'4" with a long torso and I fit fine in my 991.1, sunroof, WITH A HELMET lol! These cars have way more room than a Corvette.
