hi
i had 991.1 c2 back in 2015. drove it for 3 years and absolutely loved it.
had to let it go as i was getting married and with 2 kids now, i want to get back into it.
i have around 150k max budget, want to buy either 991.1 or 992 used CPO.
only reason i want 991.1 is because of the sound and the fact that it is the last NA enging for 911s.
but my only worry is, that once i buy it, i might get bored of driving the same car i drove many years back, when some of my friends are in 992s.
i am wondering if anyone else was in the same shoes,,
if i go 991.1, i want to do either c2s/c4s or maybe targa/convertible this time.
if i go 992, i would probably just do c4s due to my budget.
knowing me, i would probably trade the car in after few years unless 991.1s start going up in value and become a keeper.
please help me decide.. thank you

Save a bit of cash and find yourself a CPO 991.2.
New engine and upgraded entertainment.

I have a new RS3 and Taycan. Every time I get in the 991 I’m happy to have a car that isn’t all shiny black plastic and screens on the inside. The 991.2 is amazingly modern, but compared to this new gen it has a more mechanical and analog feel. I can’t tell you what you would prefer, but after buying the Taycan I considered ordering a new 992 T. It was nice to spec a custom car and get exactly what I wanted, but every time I drive the 991.2 I am reminded that something newer wouldn’t necessarily be better to me. YMMV.

I'm biased, I have a 991.1 C4S
They are very different cars. Obviously with the 992 you will get the turbo charged engine with more luxury, technology, latest model...
If you intend to get a 991.1, get it with must have options like sport exhaust and sport chrono and plan small and totally reversible upgrades like retrofitting Carplay, coding the gt3 steering software, dsc controller, backup camera if missing. I did all these little upgrades and I don't think I'm selling this car any time soon.
Given your budget prob worth skipping the 991.2. The 992 will be very similar but better in almost every aspect.

I would keep looking and see what pulls at your heart stings. IMHO, too much dialogue exists about certain engines, future values, etc. I had a 997 turbo for six years that I bought back in 2009. All I knew back then was I wanted a Porsche turbo. All this stuff about the “mezger” played ZERO role in my decision, I only learned this was even a thing until joining 6-speed online. More pain followed as I then learned I should have a GT2, GT3 or GT3RS. My humble opinion is, sometimes people get so caught up in the last of this or that, what the value is, vs. falling in love with a car they see and enjoying it. Funny enough I did end up with a RS eventually.
Back to your question - get the one you want. There is a lot to choose from in that range. Go drive and look at various models and see what your gut tells you. There are too many variables to consider to just ask 991.1 vs. 992, etc. What’s most important to you in the decision - color, options, performance, warranty, transmission, mileage, etc.
Good luck and enjoy the search!

991.2 is the sweet spot right now. Modern turbo engine. Carplay ......price not toooo high compared to a 992.
991.1 stumble was enough to make me sell the car...so not again!
100% agree. If you drive your car, which you should, who cares about value!
Get a car that makes you happy in your budget.
