I've always carried a fire extinguisher in my Porsche and others. I've used mine twice, once for a VW on fire in a medium and a second time on my own car after replacing fuel injectors. It's cheap insurance to at least minimize the damage. It's the same reason we carry a spare tire; just incase!

It depends on where and how much you want to put a fire out. Haulguard and other gas extinguishers work by displacing oxygen. They work best in enclosed spaces, like car interiors. Trying to get that gas into an engine compartment from the outside will be very difficult. Dry chem BC types are much better for that. And A types are much more likely to extinguish burning wood or paper.

4 years ago when I bought my 2012 991 there were two open recalls. Fuel tank vent and metal plate to block the oily rags mechanics were leaving on the exhaust after oil changes from igniting.
Somewhere on this site there are pics of a 991 burning to the ground on the way home from a dealer oil change.
Bet he would have liked to have an extinguisher.
