Ehh, it really does go both ways.

I'm in fights with VW right now over my girlfriend's 2011 Golf for a rust warranty. Submitted it in October of 2022, they didn't actually process the paperwork until the middle of February 2023 (two days after the warranty expired). The way they filed it had CarFax pick it up as "unspecified damage claim" which also voids the rust warranty.
