Default Oil level after HPDE

Hey All,
I recently did an oil change on 10/20 and did 2 HPDE events (4 days in total, approx 4 hours in total) in the novice group. One weekend was in late October and the other was in early December. My oil level has gone from mid level to the last block before minimum. It still appears as oil level good and the tech inspection came clean without recommendation for an oil change. I’m heading back to another HPDE weekend in early January.
2 questions: 1- Is this normal for oil levels to drop after track days and 2- if oil gets burnt up should I be looking out for something? Like smell etc.
I’m planning to do an oil change before the event in any case.
Thanks in advance!

991.1 or 991.2? Mileage? Miles on recent oil change?

Any blue smoke on start up?

After an oil change my oil level will read let’s say mid bar level. And I see the reading so I think perfect and done with my oil change. Then after driving another 30 miles or so my oil level drops again a bar or two. Your experience as described sounds like this. And is normal.

Thanks. I’m just worried that it may go lower with the upcoming track weekend. If it was around town I would leave it as is but for piece
of mind will likely change it.

Why not just top off the oil with a fresh quart (or whatever is needed), and change it after your next track day?

Tracking will always use a little oil. You are at sustained high rpm and create massive heat.

The reason a lot of track guys don’t notice is because they change their oil far more frequently. So its the guys that track occasionally, and then have a gap, that usually notice.

The most I have ever had to top up between changes was 1 litre, when I was a noob at track. Now it gets changed before it needs a top up.

So just top up and enjoy!

Thanks 4 Point 0. That makes sense. As you and others have suggested I’ll top off.

Also, I believe one quart is measured from min to max line on the MFD, so maybe only add .25-.5 of a quart.

+1 regarding top off … but definitely DO NOT overfill !! A half a quart should be fine … and remember it takes a while for the electronic dipstick to recalibrate and show the actual level.

it is my understanding, from prior posts here, that each segment on the electronic dipstick is about 300 mL.

Quick way to check oil level after adding. The car wants to see 3 cycles of on/off with oil temp > 190, after the rear deck lid is opened. Then it will display.

Warm the car up to 190 oil before adding. Add oil, close the lid and idle the car for 1 minute, shutoff for 1 minute. After the 3rd cycle, car will display

991 4S - the difference between min & max on the oil level gauge is 1.8 qts. Approximately 12 oz will move the guage one line depending upon the initial level.

Ugh. If that’s the case I’m seeing a loss of 2 lines/3.6 quarts between the period I mentioned earlier. Strange.
