Default Blower Motor Goes Wild!

Not a turbo motor, the heater motor.

Sitting in stop and go traffic with the interior heater sent to 72F and it just started to go wild and could not be controlled by the fan switch and would not stop when the car was turned off.

All the damper control work as does the defroster and recirculate functions, but, with the heater blowing at full force.

Left it at the dealer.

Is there a rheostat? or some sort of electronic controller in there?

2012.5 991.1 C2

Actually, the first weird thing that has happened since I bought it 106000 miles ago in June 2012

It's not terribly difficult to replace those. Just some skill using a torx screwdriver and unplugging electrical connectors.

Hey me too! Last night it was fine and this morning it was full blast. Hopefully it’s the $60 regulator. A lot of people have had luck with that being the issue.

Thanks all for your responses, and yes, the failure was caused by the part you identified. A photo of the little b*stard is below. I paid an embarrassingly large amount to have it extracted and replaced. For my money I even got a video (link below) with an explanation of the problem.

thanks again!

Electrical connectors are the most difficult part of working on cars….how is this connector defeated? Do I push on this tab? Should I pry? How hard should I pull? Is it free yet?

SNAP! “F$&@k”. Guess there was a hidden latch on the other side of the connector.

I looked at the posts describing how to fix it and when I reached the word "airbag" I stopped reading.
In the over eleven years I've owned the C2 there have been very few problems in the 106,500 miles it has traveled. Stuff wears out, tires get punctured, parts corrode (as it did with this part), or just break.
All things considered, I am a happy customer. No complaints.

Same symptons as of Saturday...

So this 991-624-423-01 part from Pelican (Behr - $55) and the Hitachi equivalent ($62) are both out of stock with no ETA for new ones. All they have is the Porsche part at $197. I checked a bunch of other online sources and same deal - except the P-branded part is like $164 at Sunset or whereever.

1) How to check this thing to see if it's bad? I would guess maybe two of the pins are shorted but ... that's just a guess.
2) does anybody know where a cheaper part that the Porsche one may be available?
3) I did search the Mahle part number shown in the picture G4532004 and it shows up in a few places, like Ebay has one for BMW's at $85. Is there any risk that this part would be somehow different for a BMW over a Porsche?

And of course it's the hottest week of the year (so far...)

I would just buy it replace it. If it’s an intermittent problem you can convince yourself you testing with volt meter proved it was a sound part. Let us know how it works out.

Interesting reading in this thread (I've also now searched and read through more comments on the same failure).

Has anyone else had this be an intermittent issue? Or does it fail permanently?

I am fairly certain that my blower fan acted up once but hasn't since. I figured it was operator error or a setting I wasn't aware of (like BMW residual heat...) but now ... I remember that it was stuck on high when I turned off the car, went to get gas and get lunch. Sounds very familiar.

Second question: Did any of you have to jumpstart your 991 right before the failure/have a dead battery?

The problem is permanent as far as I can tell and all reports I see are that way. There was nothing that would have led to this - including jump starting. It happened one mornign when I went to start the car. I looked it up and found the fuse, which I pulled.

I found a used part in Ebay for $57. It'll be here tomorrow so I'll et you now what happens.

Well, I'm a happy camper. Found instructions on how to remove the trim, glovebox, etc, removed the airbag (after disconnecting the battery) and replaced the offending part. It works like a charm. Let's hope it holds out!

Cheers/
