My 4GTS has noticeable turbo lag and certainly more noticeable than my F80 M3 which feels more like an NA car than my 991.2 4GTS.

I don't get why some people claim the GTS has little to no turbo lag.

My observations with my 991.2 GTS.

If I am below 3000 rpm and in manual mode, there is a pause before the turbos rocket to 18 psi, it starts accelerating right away, but there is a noticeable surge of power once it gets to max boost.
Above 3000 rpm this pause is shorter.as it rockets to 18 psi.
Above 4000 rpm the car rockets to max psi.

If I am below 3000 rpm in auto mode the car downshifts 2 gears and rockets away. The shifting seems shorter than the pause to rocket to 18 psi.
If I am in the rpm range where it will not downshift when WOT the car is a rocket. This situation is less common for me on the road, and always the case at the track.

The 911 has noticeable less lag than cars with 'older turbo technology'. My RX-7 with a GT35 is a sloth below 4500, and the rate at which it builds boost is significantly slower than the 911. Planning to upgrade to a smaller ball bearing turbo that will spool significantly faster and bring back the speed of building boost when it was with the twin sequential turbos. When I compare the 911 to my Subaru STi, the Subaru made power in a more linear fashion which made it seem like it had less lag, but it is slower to make max boost.

Bottom line, is that when you are hammering on the 911, there is minimal/no lag. When driving around town in manual mode you can easily put the 911 in a situation where you will be dealing with lag, a pause, and then a huge surge/rush of power.

If there was a problem with GTS turbos being too large or too laggy then Porsche would never have considered them for their top tier Carrera model. They only get better with a tune. Any hybrid turbo based on either the K03 or K04 housings will also be a relatively small turbo and still have amazing performance and driveability, certainly compared to any turbo from 20-30 years ago. Modern turbos use a lot of technology to keep the turbos spinning up over 100,000rpm even when you let off the throttle, so you experience a lot less *true* turbo lag. This would be a real discussion if you were saying some nonsense like “I’m building a custom twin K16 kit and want to make XXXX rwhp, will the lag be terrible?” You’re still in K04 size, let’s all calm down 😊
