Default When to change the water pump?

I am curious if there is a factory recommended interval change for the water pump. I know most cars it's around 50-100k. I just passed 105k miles. I will most likely do it when I need to change my plugs and PDCC Resevoir again at 120k miles

My car is a 991.1 C2S

I am not aware of any passenger vehicle that has a published service interval for the water pump.

People tend to do a water pump while they're in there for large maintenance, particularly on cars that have a water pump behind the timing belt.

When it's making noise and/or leaking.

When it LEAKS. A slow leak which is apparent through the drip-hole.

I replaced it on my Honda not because it leaked, but because I was installing its first new timing belt, belt tensioner and while I was in there, the water pump.

Imagine that, at 118,617 miles, the original water pump was still fine.

Honda JSeries engines, 100k miles. Probably because it’s driven off and buried in with the timing belt and that’s the service interval for that.

I replaced my water pump on speculation cause I was in there for other things. Old water pump wasnt leaking or making noise but after I had it off discovered some play in the bearing. 94k miles on it and I expect it probably wasn’t gonna go much longer.

Water pump kit for a 991.1 is $100.

No leaks and seems ok, I'll just do it during my next PDCC resevoir pump change, spark plug change etc.

It's marked as "inspect" at 105k on the J30, and yes, this is because you're already in there doing the timing belt.

Most people just replace it preemptively.

So, joec, the advice is to not change it unless it has failed or giving indications of failure, and even Porsche which loves to replace stuff doesn't recommend it ((or at least it isn't apparent) - but. you are still going to replace it?
