Unhappy Michelin PS4S N0 - quality downgrade?

Hi all! I've had the PS4S "N0" for the last few years (five tire sets) and I have always loved them. I just got new PS4S N0 (manufactured in 2023) and the experience feels different. For starters, the "velvety" logo and style has changed, feels less sophisticated now. But the important thing is the ride quality -- the ride feels harsher compared to the previous sets of N0s that I had on the car, the steering wheel transmits every single road imperfection. Even in the smoothest surfaces I feel like I'm going over an irregular road. I've tried lowering the pressure, but the improvement was minimal. Also tried rebalancing the 4 wheels (just in case), but still the same experience. Has anyone felt the same with new PS4S tires? My intuition is that they must have changed the compound or perhaps reinforced the side walls (maybe to adapt to the 992 series)? The harshness is most noticeable when turning at high speed. I went for a test drive with an experienced mechanic and he noticed the harshness but was confident it was not a balancing/alignment/improper installation issue.

EDIT: it is not a safety concern (the car feels safe!), it's just the "user experience" and ride comfort.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
JL

I agree totally, I recently switched to set a set of non n rated conti sport contact 7s and the improvement was day and night in terms of steering feel and comfort levels.

I will never buy the PS4s again.

Exactly... it's unfortunate, I loved the feel of the Ps4s N0 until now...

Are they still made in France? I know Pirellis are coming out of China these days, but haven't heard of any negative consequences to that.

PS4S still on N0? The SC2 is now N1, with better compound, although there are still old N0 floating around.

OP
l have noticed this as well but l consider this as a huge positive, l absolutely love the way they have transformed the road feedback and the handling is next level.

High performance with excellent wet weather grip, what's not to like
I wouldn't want it any other way.

But l get it's not for everyone

Quality downgrade? No.

Performance upgrade? Yes.

Compromises from the performance upgrade? Also yes.

I just installed my first set coming from the P6s. I too thought I had an issue with balancing (shaking/shimmy steering) until I found myself driving over very smooth payment when the shaking/shimmy disappeared. If I had a balance issue I should have it regardless of surface. So indeed the tire is translating road issues into my hands. Not sure I like it (I don’t.)

Exactly -- in my case the shaking never disappears entirely (but it is not regular shaking or speed-related, so definitely not a balancing issue... ). The feeling is like if the compound was rock solid, so that it fails to absorb imperfections and transmits them to the steering wheel. Also, windows down the road noise has increased compared to my prior PS4S....

I literally made a post about this last week, I ended up switching tyres and rims as I couldn’t believe it was the tyres given every other set of Michelins have been amazing, until I changed them and realised! I described the steering wheel as wobbling left and right.

What performance does anyone get out of these, 10mins on a track and they lose most of their grip, they’re just too soft, they’re not as good in the wet as many other tyres, when handling and overall unsteadiness is experienced the only place for this tyre is the bin.

I have a new set of PS4S and I’m not getting any of these issues. Wonder if it’s a bad lot of tires.
