A hot shot lawyer charges a lot more than $500 per hour...

In 2016 in Central NJ the charge was $450 for my 991.1 that was the last time I went to dealer and service it myself for about $75.00. On my 2021 Cayman S I went for the free oil change. It calls for 0w-40 C40 spec. They put in 5w-30 C30 spec. Needless to say I will be servicing both vehicles going foward.

My dealer raised their prices this spring and now charges $368 plus sales tax for an oil change with the usual inspection. For at least 5 years before this, they charged $255 to $265, plus tax, so this was a significant increase. After my extended warranty ends, I plan to do this work myself if I still own the car, but until then I think it is worth it to maintain a good relationship with the dealer.

As the 991 model starts reaching the bottom of the depreciation curve many cars will get owned by enthusiasts with shallower pockets where DIY becomes a necessity. The 'my warranty' threads with then slowly get replaced with threads about serious DIY wrenching.

It’s not worth a dealer’s time to charge $200. There are soft costs and opportunity costs that result in net zero at $200. So they charge $350-$500 to recoup (Chicagoland).

Just did mine, cost me less than $200 in oil and oil filter, also gives me the peace of mind knowing that is done right.

a lot of talk here about how the dealership tech is totally, absolutely faking the checks.

do any of you actually have evidence of this?

Besides without a dipstick to check if the oil is gold colored and just been replaced, how can you tell if the oil has been changed when someone else does it. Yeah I know, the chances of that happening is probably ultra slim.

By the way, $200? What kind of oil are you using?

YUP $108 from FCP Euro and You can send them back your used oil and filter for store credit LOL, which brings you closer to $30 after the initial purchase when factoring in shipping your used oil back
