Default Trading my GTS for M5 Competition

Hello all, unfortunately I have decided to trade my 18 GTS in for the last year they will make the 2023 BMW M5 Competition. I have always liked the M5 and my wife and I do a lot of road trips and I think it will be more comfortable and basically, just as fast. I am probably pulling the trigger on Saturday and would love to hear from the the new and old forum members if I am making a huge mistake or it basically it is a good move. The M5 is completely loaded, and I understand it is not a Porsche, but there are pluses and minuses in everything we do. Please be kind enough to express your opinions or thoughts either way. Thank you so much in advance!!!

For what it’s worth, Chris Harris dailies an M5 CS in the UK (imagine their small country roads) and he says it is the absolute best car BMW has ever made. So no, I don’t think you’re making a mistake, but you may still some day want to add a sports car back to the lineup, as they are very different experiences!

To all, no more wasting of your time. I have changed my mind and keeping my GTS. Can’t throw out stupid money. Sorry for the wasted thread!

I was looking for an M5C when I stumbled across the 991.2 I bought.

Still not sure which one I would have been happier with. The M5C is a lot of car, and to this date my e39 M5 is the coolest car I've ever driven.

Can't go wrong with either though, so if you change your mind again, no one'll be mad :P

Always had a sweet spot for the M5. E39 M5 was on top of my list and was lucky enough to own it for a few years back in 2010. It didn't turn out to be what I had expected driving experience wise (sometimes we build things up in our minds but by the time we attain them we have grown/changed) but feel lucky to have experienced it for a couple of years, was happy to let it go to another enthusiast. What a masterpiece it was back in its day, that engine being the jewel

Did you enjoy the GTS? What didn’t you like about it? BMW should be a fun car. It’s a souped up sedan that BMW is trying to make sporty. The 911 is the benchmark other sport cars are compared to. As long as you know that, you should be happy.

There's a guy that come up Angeles Crest in an M5CS and frankly, nobody could keep up with him. I mean nobody. Not a souped-up sedan. An amazing piece of motorsport.

I had an E60 M5 and it was wonderful for road trips to Vegas, and it had a ton of grip. Same with the amazing Merc CLS55 AMG I had. The only downside to me for both of them was the weight. They feel bigger than I like.

You may want to try to get an extended drive on an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV. It is so comfortable yet feels light and tossable and the engine is perfection. I've owned a lot of cars, and this one brings me more joy than any. It is truly a sportscar.

The M5 is a beast and the M5C is very special. I can see the temptation. There are a lot of pluses and minuses but it sounds like you decided to keep the GTS. Personally I would think, how will you feel about your GTS 2-years from now vs how you would feel about owning the M5C 2-years from now. For me, if I was deciding, it would be the M5C, because your GTS may be tired by then. And mentioning your wife and having more room is an important variable.

I went from 991.2 to M5C to x5mc and now getting back to a 991.2.

The M5 is so much fun and was a dream car for me but nothing like the feeling of a true sports car. I will however get an m5cs when they depreciate a little.

You're making a huge mistake and that M5 is going to get obliterated on depreciation. You'll be back soon.

Just going to leave a side note that a 991 GTS and an M5C would make a pretty epic two car solution!
Since the M5s will depreciate like crazy just get a CPO one in a couple years to add to the stable, i.e. why not both

I unfortunately passed because this particular car had the 7500 exhaust option! I heard it is fantastic, but in my small townhouse, older community, people would go crazy and the HOA would be probably called every morning when I leeave. Also, I agree with you the depreciation would be a killer. They offered me 109,000 for my loaded mint GTS in mint condition, which is low. Especially here in California where there are not a lot of used clean Porsches available.

I've had the M5C for about a 18 months. Was my daily driver until the turbo s came. M5 is very comfortable and plenty fast, lots of nice options. Not a big fan of the transmission, though, 1st to 2nd shifts are clunky. PDK is far superior imho. Depreciation always seems to be a factor with BMW. I'll be listing it for sale shortly and am sure to take a hit even though I purchased it used.
