Is it "reasonably" possible to convert a non Voice control to Voice control ? (2019 Base cab)

Yes, it is a bit of an investment and requires a volunteer of the opposite sex but after 3 years voice commands get pretty ok.

Yeah, but the car still doesn't listen...

I looked into it for my 991.1 and it involved replacing the stalk switch to gain the voice pushbutton, buying the option (license) from Porsche, and PIWIS coding. I stopped before getting a full quote for the work. The service manager suggested it wasn't worth the cost.

I have about 15 Alexa devices in the house but they are useful mostly because it allows interaction with things that are not at arms length.

I don't know if I have voice control on the 911 but for sure have it in the Mercedeses but I don't even know if it's any good because I don't want to talk to my car. Even if they get it perfectly right I much rather have the controls than have to talk to my car.

If you already have the stalk with the button then it is just a dealer software upgrade. Probably not worth the cost if you have to have the new stalk installed. An interesting note, I have the button and when you have Apple CarPlay active holding the button down for a bit activates SIRI.

Not true or possible according to the Porsche dealer of North Olmsted, Ohio from which I purchased my CPO 2017 C2S. I have asked their service advisors on multiple occasions. They always have replied that it must have been installed at the factory.

On the other hand, we know that nearly anything is possible if you're willing to spend enough for hardware, firmware and software and the expertise to install it.

I have it in both my 2011 Audi S4 and my 2013 Audi Allroad, and it functions okay, but back in their era, voice control [voice command] is not very effective at entering a destination address for the NAV system which otherwise works well but requires a subscription if you want to have real time traffic updates. The hands-free cell phone function and in-car microphone and speakers are much more useful.

Apple Car Play is overall quite effective including for navigation via Waze or iMaps PROVIDED that you have a decent [2 bars or stronger] cell phone signal. Otherwise, those cell phone based navigation apps choose to get you lost and insist that you deviate immediately from the already loaded route information as each cross road appears. I've learned this the hard way from many trips in rural SE Ohio where cell phone service from Verizon and ATT is spotty at best.

All I know for sure is that Suncoastparts.com sells the Voice Control System for 991.1 and 991.2. They say Porsche dealer installation required. If you already have the button installed (like I do) it is just a software upgrade. So I believe it is a reasonable assumption that the system can be retrofitted. I have used the button for SIRI with Apple CarPlay, and that feature is in the owners manual. I do not have the voice software. Hope that helps.

If you have the button on your steering wheel then just software activation needed , don’t need coding computer , can be done remotely

Thanks, but no thanks. I had voice control on my 2017 Macan GTS and never used it. I’ve only used the SIRI feature once when the dealer rep showed me the feature. And I don’t know how effective voice control would be with the top down which is my preferred method of driving 😁
