Default Considering - 2014 911 Carrera S

I am strongly considering purchasing a 2014 911 Carrera S from a good friend of mine. He purchased it as a CPO in 2017 or 2018 and the vehicle has 44k miles, currently. He's offering it to me for $57k which is what a dealer offered him the other day when he was considering upgrading to a different Porsche (would rather sell it to a good friend who will enjoy it rather than a dealer). Original MSRP of $122,160. In any event, just wanted some feedback from the pros as to what I can expect in terms of cost of ownership, potential issues, things to look out for etc. I see the recommended maintenance is oil change every 10k with minor service every 20k and major service every 40k. Anything else I need to be aware of? This would be my first Porsche. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

that's 15-20k below market for a car with those miles and equipment.

I have a similar car with 102K miles, great car and very reliable.

Whatever happens, don't let it get in the way of your friendship.
And the price is ridiculously low..

I personally wouldn't do the deal just because you're either taking advantage of a friend to the tune of $10k+ below market or there is a story/issue with the car.

That is WELL BELOW market value! Jump on it immediately. If you don't love it in a year or 2 you can sell it for a profit.

As others have said, the price is crazy good. I bought a 2013 C2S almost optioned exactly like this one in April of 2021 that had 30k miles on the clock. Ive only put just little over 8k on in so far, I recently had it serviced with the plugs/coil packs/drive belt/oil changed out but other than that its been rock solid and an absolute blast to own, I love it more and more with each turn of the key! I would jump all over the opportunity if I was you!

yeah. piling on. 15-20k under market.

my feeling is it costs at least 10k to transfer a car through a professional, so enjoy the savings of the private sale.

Buy it and never blame your friend if it breaks. If it has moving parts it will break. Get a PPI so you both are aware of any issues but even if there are any I would not try to get that price any lower,

Looks like a terrible deal for your neighbor, and an incredible one for you.
If you like the car, take it and run.

He's selling it retail to you for less then market wholesale, and losing all the tax savings by not trading the car for the same money. Hey, to each their own.

Edit:
To add to others' comments. If there's ever anything wrong with it in the future, just remember, he didn't build the damn thing he only owned it for a little. Use the money you save to make it your own and pay for the maintenance the entire time you own it. Good luck! Great buy.

Def not a story with the car. I was there when he bought it as CPO from the dealer and I've been close with him ever since. In terms of taking advantage, he offered it to me at that price.. I'm not preventing him from selling it on the open market for whatever he'd like. He'd just rather sell it to a good friend who he knows will take care of it.

What a great friend. I can see him offering the car to you for the amount he was offered for trade in, especially if he doesn’t want to deal with selling it on his own. If applicable in your state, you should offer to pay the potential sales tax benefit there would be for him trading the car in. That way he would be whole financially to the trade-in option.

I am sure your friend is aware of current market list prices (doesn’t mean they are end sale prices) but getting those prices can take time and you have to deal with tire kickers etc etc so I am not surprised he is offering it to you at the dealers trade in value. He could have easily upped it a few thousand so I think he is probably quite happy to sell to a friend vs a dealership no loss to him he gets the same amount of money. I agree to get a PPI just so you’re both aware of any issues (hopefully nothing major) and consider the savings on the price the necessary funds to cover any immediate or soon to be needed maintenance. You can ask the dealership what the estimated cost of the next service is. The 991 is a solid reliable car you should be have a good experience. If you two do work something out congrats and enjoy.
