Default Upgrade steering wheel 991.1

I have a 991.1 C2 with the standard wheel with PDK rocker switches and want to replace it with another with paddles, preserving the other PCM controls, and would appreciate hearing of anyone’s experience.

Can it be easily done with aftermarket units or is it something only Porsche dealers can carry out?

Thanks in anticipation. (hoon@hotkey.net.au)

Hey there! I recently custom ordered a wheel from these guys:

https://www.autoparts63.de/product/p...982-718-9y0-2/

You can email them and specify what leather, stitching, stripe, airbag (nappa vs plastic) you like, along with an adaptor to easily plug and play the new wheel. The wheel took a few weeks to build and ship to me, and it was an easy 1 hour install at my independent mechanic.

HIGHLY recommend, I hated my old multifunction wheel with those stupid paddles but wanted to keep the MF functionality.

it's not super difficult to remove the wheel and move it over a notch. There are DIY's on the forum to show you how remove a steering wheel, it shouldn't take more than 30 mins if you have done this before 10 - 15 mins taking your time.

I get the customization of the materials. But Im guessing they do more to it to allow the retrofit? In other words, you cant just buy the new wheel off the dealership shelf and install.

Looks bloated compared to the OEM. Is it really thick? Looks a little odd in size?

looks more like the M-Sport BMW thickness steering wheel, which I really liked when I had a BMW. I have a the GT4 steering wheel which is a lot thinner. I do miss that thick boi, but the GT4 wheel feels natural to me now.

You can simply add the Techart paddles as an option with no need to replace the wheel.

The popular upgrade is going for 991.2 steering wheel which adds the both aesthetics & functionality keeping the originality.
It comes in different variations depending on recipient car's spec & desired upgrades combination;
PDK / manual transmission,
with/without multifunction controls,
with/without heating,
with/without SportChronoPlus mode dial
obviously material leather vs alcantara
carbonfiber or wood rim inserts
aluminum-look vs satin-black look for spoke inserts
& obviousely leather color

In all cases, you would require a module (GPS) for 991.2 wheel to speak to 991.1 electronics
if you wish to add/ delete features, then you will need the appropriate hardware + coding

The 991.2 wheel is just slightly thicker in the bolsters at 10 and 2, but it’s a very small change. The rest of the .2 wheel is identical to the .1 in thickness. When using the paddles, you’re holding the wheel at 9 and 3 anyways so you don’t notice any difference. This company also sells thicker wheels with perforated leather just like BMW M cars, but I didn’t want that look.
