Default 991.2 brake pads

Hey All! I’m sure this topic has been discussed a million times but in lieu of searching through and less threads I wanted to post the question.

have a 991.2 c4s. I drive 95% street and 5% track. On the street I spend a lot of time in the canyons of Colorado and am fairly aggressive on braking.

I don’t wanna brake pad that is track focused and loud as hell for street driving since it’s primarily a daily driver. I also don’t want to break pad that cause juddering.

So far OEM pads have really well. Any suggestion on aftermarket pads that fit the needs describe or should I stick OEM? I’m not against OEM if that’s the best bet.

How aggressive are you on the track? Stock pads would probably be fine for the occasional track day and mountain run. I run Ferodo DS2500 pads these are a higher temp pad that is decent for track days and street. A lot of people on here will push you to a more aggressive track pad, I find most people that do a handful of track days are fine with the DS2500. They don't squeak any more than when I had the stock pads on, and if they do I just go out and do some agressive braking and they quite down.

thank you very much for the feedback and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I am absolutely not looking for the most aggressive track pads since I only go to the track 4 to 6 times a year.

Also, the benefit of DS2500, is that you an get them through FCP Euro which gets you a lifetime warranty. I'm on my second set from FCP Euro (2nd set were reimbursed by them). I have found them good on the track and no more noise than the stock too, but I destroyed the rear pads in a few track days. Now that they are free to replace, I'm not so worried about wear.

Tracking

1-4 times a year MX72+
5-10 times a year ME20
10 or more times per year N35S.

More than 12 and money no object RE10.

Because the more you track, the faster you get. The faster you get, the faster your pads wear out, so the need for better pads. Which make you faster again and then they wear faster and you get the drift.

Thank you! Are the mx72+ loud for street driving?

Has anyone tried the Pages RSL29? They are also available from FCP Euro.

just did ds2500 with oe slotted rotors & motul 660. definitely a little more bite vs oem. just as noisy. feels good though, did a small bedding and they feel very nice for similar use as you describe.

It sounds like the DS2500 may be a good choice for you. While they are technically a racing pad, they are more of a sport pad on the 991.2. They have a much higher temperature threshold than stock pads, excellent feel, and they are very easy on discs. They typically don't make much of any noise either. They may give a little peep here and there, but if you do a few hard stops as others have noted and keep them bed-in a bit, they are generally fairly silent. Just be aware that as with any pad short of a full-blown racing pad, they do have their limits on the track.

Here's an article that examines the Ferodo pad range in more detail:

No they are not loud for the street. Everything is eventually a compromise. What is more important? Pulling up every time, or silence? My OEM stock pads squealed a little, right before stopping. It was a higher pitched squeal than ME20. So ME20 is not a compromise to me. The tiny bit just before a full stop is nothing to have superior brakes that last and out brake most this at the track, other than hardcore track pads. You can complain about dust, or squeal or having no brakes. Which is it? There are no silent pads that works everywhere and does everything. The closest you get to that is an ME20. MX72+ won't stop as hard, or last as long, but with decent rotors might be a little quieter.

RSL29 Pagid yellows are very old technology. They squeal like a council bus. They are horrendous. I track all the time and are fine with a bit of light squeal just before a full stop at the lights. Yellows squeal when they are cold, they squeal when they are hot, they squeal at the track, they squeal on the street. After running ME72+, ME20, N35S and RE10, I will never buy RSL29 again EVER.

They are screamers. The only reason they have a good reputation is, they are endurance pads, and they last a long time. To me, they are too much of a compromise.
Endless technology has by far surpassed that massive compromise and offers a huge range of things that no longer justify putting up with that noise anymore.

Even N35S do not squeal like Yellows and they are pretty hardcore pads.
