Default 991.2 S versus 991.1 Turbo decision

For anyone that has had experience with both (or any opinions anyway), I'm interested in hearing them.

For the 991.2 S:
- Manual available (not a deal breaker)
- More modern interior (with Carplay)
- will be newer, and possibly cheaper long term
- newer/better PDK (?)

For the 991.1 Turbo:
- street cred (yeah, I know this is totally stupid, but I had a 996 Turbo about 15 years ago, and it was a very different feeling driving that vs 911's I've had before or after)
- wide body
- passing power

Would like to hear your opinions. It looks like there is some overlap in prices for these cars, but the turbos will be pushing 60k miles in the same price range (not too worried about this).

I've attached a photo of my old Turbo. My daughter, pictured there as well, is of driving age now, and is pushing for the Turbo as well now

I haven't driven a 991.2 but for me, my 991.1 Turbo S fulfills all my needs and wants. Yes, the wide body and I don't feel a need for CarPlay. I have it 4+ years now and it's been absolutely bullet proof. Any added costs of routine maintenance is well worth it. I still get looks and positive comments about the car from complete strangers. Most people can't tell the difference between any 911, but they all recognize the turbo as something special. Your daughter is correct, get the turbo!

Listen to your daughter :-D

Drove 991.2 Targa 4S PDK - turbo lag is a bummer, need to be in Sport+ to get ooomph.
Drove 997.2 TT PDK - essentially the same powertrain as 991.1 Turbo albeit less powerful and torque : no lag issue as obvious as on the 991.2 3.0L turbo - these variable geometry turbines are really performing as they should.

It is a Turbo so top of the line and usually very well optioned cars.
I'd take the 991.1 Turbo!

Data point:

I believe the 991.1 turbo is rated at 520 hp, and the S at 560.

A 991.2 with a tune will get you 500+/-

(but i still say get the turbo!)

If you can live with the "outdates" in the Turbo, that is what I would go for, higher mileage and all... If long-term value is a thing for you, it will definitely hold that as well as long as you do your part. Good luck!

p.s. Smart Daughter! Like most of us, she appears to think with her right foot...

Adorable picture of your daughter! And sounds like you've brought her up with an interest in cars which is great! We need the newer generation to appreciate them.

I have no experience with the 991.2 Gen, but I do have a 991.1 TTS and it's an absolute animal! But with the awd, it's so controllable. I also vote the Turbo S. And if you can swing a 991.2 TTS, definitely go that route.

I generally don't like the "boy racer" look of the turbos, but for some reason yours is an exception( the slats in the engine lid pre the spoiler profile vs the charbroil grille look help) and very bad azz looking and I'm sure scary fast. If only it was a manual though; would love to ring thru the gears at 6000+ rpm ; just not the same with the paddles, for me anyway. But real nice regardless..

Man, that's a tough call.

I'm a diehard manual guy, and the MT availability of the 3.0L cars is a huge selling point for me.

That being said, the "Turbo" is a better car, better looking, and gobs of more power.

That being said, you COULD get a 3.0T and modify it to be on par with the Turbo. We sell the parts to do it. But it still won't have the same resale value. It will probably cost you less, even with the mods, though.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

Here's my take - if you decide on a PDK, just go with the Turbo. If you want a manual, go for the .2 and modify it.

Since you’re looking for opinions. I would try to drive both. Get up close and see which pulls at you most. Imho all modern 911s have enough power for the street. So then it comes down to personal taste and what you want from the car. Trust your gut after you see what really excites you. Good luck.

Turbo's are always a bit for the money and further no clue guys... carrera's are for the drivers. And the 991.2 looks much better with the new lights..specially now the strange front "eye browse"lights are gone .

I was debating 991.1 Turbo S vs 991.2. I bought the 991.2 (GTS). It’s my every day driver. 8,000 miles in first 7 months. No regrets, fantastic car. Lane change assistant is underrated, especially in a cabriolet. Makes driving on the expressway a lot less stressful. The good news is that regardless of what we internet experts opine, you have a proverbial high class decision. Regardless of what you decide, you’ll end up with a great car.

Drive and decide. For me I don't think I'll ever own another turbo after my 996 Turbo. It was the most boring car I've ever owned. Fast? Absolutely. Fun or interesting to drive, nope. Sometimes I think I want a new 991.2 Turbo but I don't think I'll every get one because of my 996T experiance.

Keep in mind a 991.2 S is way faster than your 996T was around the ring.

The TTS is an awesome car, if you want to slip through traffic like a hot knife through butter - trouble is, you teach highly illegal speeds without the feeling of going fast- if you want fun, go C2S

Is just too important in a sports car for the street. Track weapon only .1 street car .2S and tune. The S brakes are necessary.
