the closer we get to these target dates around 2035 that these idiot govts are demanding that only electric cars are produced prices will go way up. I am thinking about trading in my 2017 C2 in a few years for a newer 992 or whatever is out there, could be my last vehicle ever. you just know that when porsche either is forced to or volunteers to make all 911s electric the world will be close to ending.

I've read that manuals make up only about 10-15% of 991 production.

The POLL. (Percentage Of Life Lived) It definitely helps justify paying a little more.

It's not where we are but representative of where a few individuals with poor impulse control are. You can't go by BaT sale prices as they don't represent the market at large. $65k with that mileage is something like a 99th percentile price for a Carrera 996.

That being said, I agree with others that if you find the right car to go for it.

BaT does show historical data for all their auctions. A single data point is never representative. The car in question is an outlier probably because of the color, lower mileage, and the factory aero kit. Honestly just go to that guy on youtube for analysis or pull the data and throw it into a spreadsheet yourself.

I agree. My point was that it wasn't representative of the 996 market (by a longshot) and people shouldn't think the sky is the limit. A base model 996 with that mileage is typically a $40k car these days.

Edit: Adding that despite the color and factory options, $65k is ridiculous. Add in BaT's fees and delivery and the buyer is around $70k for a base model 996 with nearly 50k miles. People get carried away on these auction sites buying unseen cars, without a test drive, without a PPI, for top dollar. Pretty reckless.

This is an excellent post and so true. At 68 I realize every day you are waiting to do something, is a day you aren't doing it. Way too much emphasis gets placed on the perfect deal, the lowest possible price but in truth the time that gets wasted is priceless. One can only make a good deal in the context of now. I'd rather drive a car then collect a car. I buy stock to sell in the future I buy cars to enjoy now.

Bought a 2017 991.2 during the peak. Got an equal unreal offer on my trade. In the end it’s a wash. Go for it. Personally I don’t think the size of the savings are worth the wait. Specially on something that is not even sure to happen.

Exactly, and by the 2030s, teens who dreamt of the 991 will be in their mid-late 30s so they will be in a good financial position to afford these manual second hand 991s. This is happening now with the 993s.

Not sure if anybody can afford to own cars by 2035 as the self-driving cars would take over and it would be too expensive to insure a car.

you read it here first. widespread self-driving cars will never happen here. maybe in an island environment where all road and traffic variables can be accounted for, but when cars start crashing into things on their own or stop avoiding crashes as programmed all hell will break loose.

You could always self-insure. . .you wouldn't need uninsured motorist insurance if every other car is self-driving, and UIM is by far the most expensive part of my insurance bill.

Pretty sure the same was said when cars were made to replace horse buggies.

I'd rather have the car. horses are animals that get spooked at times, completely out of control. you're going over that cliff whether you want to or not.
