Default Radar Detector HW

Hi - I hardwired my Uniden R4 using a blendmount tap into the center light console ('17 991.2 C4). For some reason radar remains powered on when I switch off ignition. Does anyone know if there is a switched power source in the center light console or do I have to hardwire into the fuse panel down by the footwells?

Thanks

I believe there is because when I had my Carrera my R7 would switch off when I shut the car off. I forget what pin location I used. In My GT3 I have it wired where the power is always on. So I have to remember to shut it off. There is a setting on the R7 where it will turn off if it hasn’t moved in 60 min. It’s a battery saver.

I just hardwired my Uniden R8 the other day. It switches on and off with the ignition switch. This thread was very helpful: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1059...e-install.html

Be sure to tap the plug on the right hand side. That’s the one with the switched power. I have 17 Carrera so this should work for you as well. See pic below. Good luck

I’m the same as you. It is always powered. I just have it turn itself off.

Had to refer to Rennlist to trouble shoot my Mirrortap setup.

1. Interestingly my 2019 GTS does not have a yellow connector as indicated in your photo / @go.illini write up. The connector is a black on the left side and half the length. The other side is blue. Like @go.illini the Mirrortap spades have a specific side they will slide into and be snug.

2. My set up was working for a few years, and then I had the windshield replaced. Everything but the auto dimming mirror / power to the RD worked, i.e. I still had working lights / garage door opener / power to the buttons etc. I was concerned that the dealership damaged something during the R&R of the windshield. I noticed that the one of the spades of the tap was pulled out.

3. I learned that there is a single fuse for that powered connector / auto dimming mirror in the left hand fuse box, position D9 (5 amp). I made the mistake of rationalizing that if the lights / Homelink etc worked that it wasn't a fuse issue.

4. I finally decided to review the fuse box diagram and saw to my surprise that the auto dimming mirror was on its own circuit. Pulled out a blown fuse, reinstalled the new one and all is good. The spades likely shorted with one being pulled out and 1/4 inch of uninsulated spade blades being right beside each other.

5. All good, and everything is back to normal Loving the Mirrortap / Blendmount / V1 detector

6. Lesson learned, check the fuses as the first step.

Thanks for the tip. I used the wrong power source to tap (the connector for the map light). I tapped into the connector into your pic and now have a switched-to-ignition power source.

You don’t have dimming mirror. You’ll need to access the fuse box.
