Default 991.1 Header upgrades

I am considering upgrading the stock headers on a 2014 C2 S model, and am stuck between Soul vs Fabspeed. Most Soul vs Fabspeed threads are with other models of P cars. I have found several clips of the sound of the Soul Long Tube Header with High Flow Cats, but very few of the Fabspeed Headers with Cats. The one Fabspeed I found with out with out of car/in car sound was for a base, not an S. I would be adding these to and keeping my PSE. The Soul claim up to a 25hp gain, the Fabspeed up to 15 hp gain. I am trying to discern if the extra $1,100-$1,200 is worth it for the Soul Headers. Does anyone have experience with both? I am interested in the increased HP to go with a Softronic Tune, but primarily in the sound of the NA engine with either of these headers installed, I'm just having a hard time finding clips of the Fabspeed with the stock PSE exhaust. I'm sure both are fine products, just wondering if anyone has a definitive preference after hearing both.

You might have issues with the check engine light, just FYI.

With either one, or Fabspeed?

I have a 13 C2S with PSE and Soul Headers. It sounds great to me. Also, customer service is top notch.

Soul is our best selling header for the 991. We can work you a deal on them as well. Feel free to contact us.

Listening to clips of cars on YouTube to try and gauge sound quality of exhaust is honestly pointless. There is so much variation in quality of recording and conditions, not to mention the variety of equipment used to listen to the recording, you’ll never have a consistent recreation of the sound from these sources. You need to go listen in person. Contact local Porsche groups, shops, use the regional subforums, go to cars and coffee, whatever, just find local people with the setups you want to listen to. Because I guarantee you that it will sound different in person, both inside and outside the car.

I would go Soul. I just did a Fabspeed upgrade, regret it. Fitment poor, authorized Fabspeed distributor then modified the item, charged me for the modification even though it was sold as "bolt on". Soul stands behind their products and their distributor network. Easy choice. I also run a Softronics tune, love the tune but Softronics does not set the O2 or CAT OBDII monitors to the READY state, so if you have emissions testing that reads the OBDII monitors, you will fail.

Softronic claims that adding a bolt on device will not change the tune. What is the fix for the failed testing? Will sending the tune file back after installing the Soul headers and having it "retuned" fix the issue?

I reload the stock tune a week before my emission test, everything sets, pass the test, come home and reload the Softronics tune for the next year. Not that big a deal, was just a surprise the first time I rolled into the testing place and they said I "failed", 2 OBDII monitors not in the READY state.

The ECU will eventually detect any cat that has a cell rating less than OEM. So if you have high flow 200 or 300 cell the CEL will eventually pop up, even with a tune. It may not be in a month, or 6 months but after a year you will get one.

I am using a set of Soul Sport cats along with O2 spacers and I still get a CEL ( dont remember code bit its something like "delayed response from O2 sensor) every 6 months or so

I have icarsoft and it takes 2 mins to clear the Check engine light, that 2 mins worth of work is well worth the noticeable extra grunt from the cats

I have a set of SOUL on my .1 S and couldn't be more happy! Fit, finish and SOUND is amazing! Certainly feel the mid range punch as well. Car rev's quicker and has more power throughout the whole power band. They are easy to instal as well! I did it in about 2.5 hours. Highly recommend them!

Interesting! I wonder if you twisted the O2 censor when reinstalling them? Talking with SOUL and they said there is no CEL at all with the 200 cell cats.

The Soul design uses longer length primaries which should fatten up the low/mid range compared to the Fabspeed.
