advice on 991
hello fellow members
looking for a sports car and the 991.1 is among the options*.
i see the prices too volatile and sometimes its hard to justify such strong price levels for 10 year old cars with high mileage
question is what is a reasonable mile/price combination for a 991.1?
is the S version a must have?
*other alternatives are (F-type / M2 or maybe a Macan GTS )

There’s just way too many variables when it comes trim levels and options. Set a budget and look for cars within your budget. There’s a RennList saying “buy the latest model” that you can afford — there is some validity to that.
I would highly recommend a CPO’d car for your first used 911. It will de-risk the purchase somewhat.
I spent years driving the various “alternatives”. I fought the 911 thing for a long time, but there’s a reason that they are so popular. There’s precious little out there with the capability and utility of a modern 911. It’s that good and there really is no substitute.

Thanks,
looking for a touring kind of car that would keep for long (that where the 911 comes into play).
budget around up to $55-60K but i understand this might not be enough to get you a nice example, let alone a CPO

Yes the price is high, but at this point most cars are towards the bottom of their depreciation, so if/when you decide to sell you will lose little to no money assuming you maintain the car, don't add a ton of miles and don't crash it. Think of it as parking your cash.
The big things to consider are obviously
-Budget
-Mileage
-Condition/maintenance
-PDK/Manual (Manuals will def be a premium, but will also be more desirable to the enthusiast if you decide to sell)
-All the other stuff (color, options, trim)
S vs base - you can argue forever on benefits of both, but as an owner of an S, I really wouldn't want any less power or smaller brakes. If you have the budget for an S, you won't be sorry you went that route and again, going back to resale it is a more desirable trim level to most people versus the base.
Now seems like a good time to shop as the market has softened a bit, but the 911 market overall seems to still be strong. But who knows what 2023 will bring.
Ftype looks super nice, but it is a much heavier car and feels that way, definitely drive one if you haven't. It didn't feel as athletic as a 991.
For the M2, unless it's a COMP with the M4 motor, I wouldn't be all that interested. The original M2 had the N55 single turbo straight six which is a nice motor, but def not an M motor. It was used in a ton of BMW's of that generation. The M2 comp is a super nice car, but doesn't feel as special as a 911 to me, but it's a fine forced induction sports car for sure, but built off a passenger car chassis, where as the 991 911 is built off a pure sports car chassis.
No opinions on the Macan - that's just a variable that fits into this equation IMO.
Good luck in your search

You will not get a CPO 991 for 60k. Not happening. 60k might get a high mileage 997.2, might. 60 k would get you a nice low option 997.1 with medium mileage. There is some guy with a YouTube channel that tracks and analyzes 911 prices.

The reason the 911 is expensive is because it's the total package. The M2 is sweet to drive but sadly still looks and feels (interior) like an economy car. The F type is a cool car but never handled well. I'd be proud to own any of these cars but you do get what you pay for. The Macan is cool but not a sports car at all.

will look for a decent 991 C2S.
multiple owners and the condition of some vehicles in the market scare me!!!

i bought a c2s cabriolet...991.2 and have never looked back. good advice i gor from a friend that was a dealer asked about the base or S he said the reason he would get the S is the higher torque. just a bigger smile when driving. that is my couple of cents
good news is no bad decisions
enjoy the hunt!

Best thing to do if you find a car post up a link to the car on here and we can comment.
Make sure to use the VIN Lookup tool so you can see what options the car has. Quite a few options can add $$$ to one car over another. Like if one has a basic interior vs full leather.
But if you're looking for a CPO car the dealers have us by the short hairs because of inventory.

Also, hi. I'm also looking for a 991.2.

They started charging for decoding the newest models though. 991 should still be fine.
