The USB port in the center console isn't switched, therefore the CarPlay adapter stays powered on when plugged in. If you leave your car sitting for months between drives with no battery tender, unplug the adapter.
Mine turns off after a few minutes. 2018 model.

I have the Carlinkit4.0 wireless version in my ‘18 911 and it takes 45-60 seconds to connect. But once connected I have zero issues.

Yes, and I was not impressed. Very sketchy connectivity. Lost connection or would refuse to connect multiple times. Customer support was great but did not solve the issue. Went with Carlink and it works very well for me.

I just bought this and it works perfect.
Very small, plugs into glove compartment of my 991.2
Frankly I was shocked that it worked with zero drama.

Glove compartment? My CarPlay USB port is in the center console behind the ash tray.

Well, I have a 2017 991.2 and bought the CPlay2air and have been unable to get it to work. I have had my two sons help me, one is an engineer, and all I get is an "incorrect version" error on the screen. We looked at several Youtube videos, tried firmware updates, etc., all to no avail.

Get a CarPlay module to integrate. Not very difficult with some basic knowledge and YouTube.

So I do indeed have a USB port in my glove compartment, and got the same adapter as you, but it doesn't work in the glove compartment. It does, however, work in the armrest location. Very odd. Does anyone know if there's a configuration through the Porsche interface of which USB is for CarPlay? When I plug my phone into the glove compartment port with a cable, a message comes up that "iPod is connected".

The usb in the armrest is for CarPlay on the 991.2. The one in the glovebox is for charging or possibly a usb memory stick to load music (not sure as I have not tried) but I can confirm that the arm rest usb is for CarPlay.

I just hooked my phone up for the first time (bought car 7 months ago) through this interface and accessed Apple CarPlay. Here’s my question (as I was entertaining the idea of buying a wireless interface):

What am I getting by having CarPlay that I really need/care about? I can already stream Spotify wirelessly through phone, same with maps, etc., and I don’t have steering wheel controls so there’s no real advantage there with changing songs, volume, etc., when app is loaded on PCM etc…thoughts?

The most useful thing that CarPlay gives you is support for navigation apps, including Waze, other audio apps like podcasts, etc, plus better call support, like merging calls, putting someone on hold. It's far superior to some kind of phone mount and it's largely hands free.

I've tried multiple adapters and found them all to be unreliable. Back to just bluetooth or hardwire when needed.
